With the stamps of Morrell and also of Truslove and Hanson of Sloane street, luxury booksellers, book binders and acted as London agents for the State Library of New South Wales. Bound with gilt raised bands and very fine and ornate gilt tooling to the panels and boards highlighted with tiny green calf onlays. Gilt dentelles and all edges. Gordon was the first Australian poet to receive overseas recognition, though not before his tragically short life had ended.

London: John Murray, 1825. 2 volume set, 6 1/2 inches tall. An elegant set in a Georgian full calf with gilt bands, twin labels and elaborate gilt tooling to the panels. With the armorial bookplate of Robert Williams, from the recently dispersed library of a Dorset Country House. Portrait. Slight rubbing and light foxing to the portrait, overall a lovely copy of this scarce edition in English.

London: Chatto and Windus, 1876. Crushed olive morocco, 8.5 inches tall. A superb binding by Sotheran with gilt raised bands, titles, dentelles, all edges and dense extra gilt tooling to the panels and boards. An edition edited and with notes by Sir Walter Scott. Illustrated with 64 full page engravings. Some foxing, in particular to the prelims. A stunning copy.

Edinburgh: Privately printed, 1885. 2 volume set, 8.75 inches tall. A very delicate and fine half crushed morocco by Riviere with raised bands, twin labels and all edges gilt. One of just 75 large-paper copies. The first title, on parchment, is foxed, the second title page and rest of the text is perfectly clean. A delightful collection of 'Epitaphs and Inscriptions interesting either from historical association or quaintness of wording'.

Paris: Didot, 1806. 2 volume set, 6.5 inches tall. An elegant English Regency binding with gilt raised bands, very finely gilt tooled panels and gilt fillets and fleur de lis corner tools. All edges gilt. Engraved plates. Slight fading but still a superb set. From the library of Edward Vernon Utterson, famed collector and one of the 18 original members of the Roxburghe Club. Sold at Sotheby's 22nd April 1852. In the original French.

The boards are framed within a gilt roll and double fillet. Gilt dentelles and all edges. Some speckling to the boards. Internally clean. A finely printed edition, with 4 photographic plates, of these great English 18th century poems, including 'Elegy Written in a Country Church-Yard’.

London: John C. Nimmo, 1886. Half morocco, 10 inches tall. A splendid binding by Ramage with gilt raised bands, elegant gilt floral tooling to the panels and gilt top edge. Decorated with 114 coloured illustrations. A lovely, well illustrated, edition of this great 18th century comic novel.

London: Routledge, 1859. Full morocco, 9 inches tall. A splendid heavy Victorian hard grain morocco binding with gilt raised bands and elaborate gilding to the panels. With Illustrations by Birket Foster and H.N. Humphreys. The remarkable boards have a series of gilt fillets and rolls framing a gilt block illustrating a family group gesturing, in sorrow, towards a village church whence they have just left. Gilt dentelles and all edges. There is a stain on the border of the end papers and some foxing, but still a beautifully illustrated and bound volume.

London: Thomas Tegg, 1827. 2 volume set, 6 1/2 inches tall. A beautiful little Georgian full calf binding with gilt raised bands, extra gilt panels and contrasting maroon labels. Twin gilt fillets, triple blind fillets and blind corner tools frame the boards. An engraved title page in both volumes. This set covers the period " From the Earliest State to the Death of Alexander the Great". Oliver Goldsmith, novelist, poet and historian influenced later English authors Charles Dickens, Jane Austen, George Eliot, and Mary Shelley, all of whom mention his characters in their own novels. A delightful set.

Chiswick: From the Press of C. Whittingham, 1822. Full calf, 5 inches tall. A charming little Regency straight grain by T. Smyth of Exeter, and with their ticket. With gilt bands and elaborate gilt tooling to the panels. A flowery gilt roll frames the boards. Speckled edges. A neat ink former owner's name, Mary Anne Davey, on the first blank and inside the rear free end paper. With an engraved title page and vignettes.

London: Dove, 1827. Full morocco, 8.75 inches tall. A splendid Georgian morocco binding with gilt raised bands, extra gilt panels, fine gilt tooling to the boards and all edges gilt. Engraved portrait. Neat ink inscription on the first blank dated 1835. An early Collected edition with a Life of Gray by William Mason.

Paris: Charpentier, 1865 (1866). Half morocco, 7 1/2 inches tall. A very fine half crushed morocco with gilt raised bands, gilt framed panels and gilt top edge. The original wrappers are bound in. With the bookplate of Alfred and Blanche de Curzon. There is a stain on the original title page which has offset onto the end paper and a slight degree of foxing. Otherwise a beautiful copy of this scarce and bizarre first edition. 'Spirite' is an extraordinary tale which, unusually for Gautier, ends happily, with the young couple passionately in love being together, but only in the afterlife in the form of sprites. In the original French.

Alnwick: W. Davison, 1842. Full calf, 6 3/4 inches tall. A delightful little Victorian, 'Divinity' or 'Oxford' binding with raised bands, olive label and ornate blind tooling to the panels and boards. Pink edges. Withe the Binder's Ticket of Birdsall. Each fable has a charming engraved vignette. A fine little edition of these celebrated 18th century fables.

An impressive Victorian binding with gilt raised bands, fine extra gilt tooling to the panels and boards, gilt dentelles and all edges. Engraved illustrations throughout. Slight rubbing and a neat ink inscription, dated 1852, on the first blank. Philip Henry Gosse was an English naturalist who popularised many aspects of natural science. He natural created the world's first public aquarium at London Zoo in 1853, and coined the term "aquarium".
