With the armorial bookplate of Lord Kinnaird of Rossie Priory. The binder has tooled III onto the spine of volume I, and I onto the spine of volume III. Engraved plates. Some rubbing and foxing to the preliminaries. A fine set of the first collected works of the tragic 18th century poet Thomas Chatterton, who after a life of poverty and genius, committed suicide in despair at the age of 17.

An ornate gilt roll frames the boards. All edges gilt. On the reverse of the free endpaper is an ink inscription to the "Earl of Ailesbury from the Editor". Some expert restoration but a fine solid set of the first edition of a scarce title.

A superb little Regency binding with gilt raised bands, fine gilt tooling to the panels, red label and a series of gilt fillets and a blind roll framing the boards. The chart is present and correct though a little creased and frayed. David Steuart was Lord Provost of Edinburgh and a spirit dealer, whose great literary work quickly passed into oblivion.
