A beautiful Art-Nouveau binding by Petrus Ruban with a wreath of roses inlaid in hues of soft pink, with leaves and buds in shades of green, raised bands and inlaid branches of roses climbing through the panels. Watered silk endpapers and doublures. With alternating large and small inlaid pink morocco daisies on the turn-ins. Original blue-gray wraps bound in. Housed in matching morocco backed chemise and morocco edged slipcase. With title page vignette and 58 engraved views by Gustave Leheutre. With morocco bookplate of the great French bibliophile George Wendling on verso of free end paper and his small stamp on second blank. No. 73 of 117 deluxe copies. A beautiful work in outstanding condition.

Paris: Javal et Bourdeaux, 1933. Boxed, glassine wrapped volume in its original unbound state. The total height is 14 inches. 60 numbered numbered copies were printed on velin d'Arches and 13 lettered. This copy is 'Exemplaire imprime specialement pour un collaborateaur'. With 12 extraordinary plated by Beltran Masses in 2 states. The wooden box is leather bound with gilt titles, and heavily padded and lined with watered silk. It is probable that this is the publisher's copy. The box is slightly rubbed but is in excellent condition and fully functioning. There is some foxing, especially to the preliminaries. A unique copy of a very scarce volume in its original French.

Paris: Chez les Libraires Associes, 1809-1810. 13 volumes bound in 14, 7 inches tall. A delightful English full calf with gilt raised bands and dense gilt tooling to the panels. From the library of Charles William Vane (formerly Stewart), third Marquess of Londonderry, and with his elaborate bookplate. Vane served with distinction throughout the Peninsula War. His dashing and dandified portrait by Sir Thomas Lawrence is at the National Portrait Gallery. He amassed magnificent libraries in his various Country Houses. On the first blank there is the neat ink inscription 'Frances Anne Vane Tempest'. There is some mottling to the spines and some abrasions to the boards, particularly to volume 1. Being an English binding the title is in English whereas the text is in the original French.
