A collection of all the material available to Anderson at the time relating to Mary Queen of Scots.

    London: Blake, (1815). Half morocco, 8 3/4 inches tall. A fine later half crushed morocco with raised bands, gilt lettering and all edges. This is a scarce early work in imitation of William Combe and his splendid Dr. Syntax comic poems. The first edition with hand-coloured aquatint frontispiece, additional title and 13 further hand-coloured aquatints. A little creasing and offsetting but a very nice copy of the first of many imitations of William Combe and Thomas Rowlandson's hilarious hero, according to Tooley. The 1820 reprint has only 12 plates.

    London: T. Becket, 1781. Full calf, 9 inches tall. A very fine binding by Riviere with gilt raised bands, delightful gilt floral tooling to the panels and triple gilt fillets framing the boards. Gilt dentelles and top edge, the remaining edges untrimmed. An exceptionally clean and tall copy, being untrimmed. This volume does have the very rare leaf of advertisements but lacks the half title, which could be explained by the fact that it is in a later binding and that it was discarded, or could indicate it is not a true first. Slight splitting to the head and foot of the upper board but still perfectly firm and solid. A very nice copy of this great play.

Henry Fielding, one of the earliest and greatest English 18th century writers, traveled to Portugal in 1754 seeking relief from various acute medical conditions but died after a couple of months, this work was published the following year.

There is a little cracking of the joints but still perfectly firm and solid. A previous owner's ink stamp, B.Girlie, is at the head of the title pages. A handsome set of the first collected edition of the works of this English poet, who was also one of the earliest practitioners of landscape gardening.

This is the first edition of Disraeli's first novel. The text is very clean but the binding is faded and rubbed and volume IV has a repaired top panel, but the set has no splitting or loss and still looks smart. With half titles in volumes II and V, as called for.
