STUNNING FULL ORANGE CALF BY WHITE OF PALL MALL

Jean Paul’s sämmtliche Werke.

Paris: Baudry, 1843. 4 volume set, 11 inches tall. A stunning full calf binding in a most unusual orange by 'J. White. Relieur. 24 Pall Mall. 1850'. With gilt raised bands, superb gilt tooling to the panels and a triple fillet framing the boards, gilt dentelles and all edges. The boards are slightly scuffed with the occasional stain spot but still a remarkably handsome set bound by one of the greatest binders of the period. There is some foxing throughout, as usual with this edition, particularly to the preliminaries of the first volume.
Provenance: From the residual library of Charles Butler of Warren Wood in Hatfield, purchased at Sotheby's 7/7/1853.
