Illustrated with 64 full page engravings. Some foxing, in particular to the prelims. A stunning copy.

One of just 75 large-paper copies. The first title, on parchment, is foxed, the second title page and rest of the text is perfectly clean. A delightful collection of 'Epitaphs and Inscriptions interesting either from historical association or quaintness of wording'.

With raised bands, exceptionally fine gilt tooling to the panels and boards, dentelles and all edges gilt. Engraved frontispiece and title page. Double column. There is a slightly smudged ink inscription on the first blank. A very handsome mi-Victorian binding of the highest quality.

London: Chapman & Hall, 1911. Full morocco, 8 inches tall. A superb full morocco by Bayntun with gilt raised bands, elegant gilt tooled panels and boards, wide dentelles and top edge gilt. A fine edition of this great English 17th century theologian's select essays.

London: Hutchinson, (1921). Half morocco, 8 3/4 inches tall. A splendid binding by Sangorski and Sutcliffe with gilt raised bands, gilt lettering and pallets and a gilt top edge. A slight stain on the left of the title. 'A handy book of reference of the deeds that have won the Victoria Cross from the date of its institution in 1856 up to the present time' (revised up to 1921), 'arranged in order of regiment or corps. The account of each act of bravery is an extract from the 'London Gazette' of the time'.

The boards are framed within gilt corner tools and a triple fillet. Gilt dentelles and top edge. The original cloth covers and spine are bound in. First edition. With over 50 comic vignettes by Leech.

London: Arthur L. Humphreys, 1906. 2 volume set, 9 1/4 inches tall. A most elegant Edwardian half morocco by Bayntun Riviere with gilt raised bands and simple gilt framed panels. Gilt top edges the remaining edges untrimmed. Slight foxing. A fine copy of one of Humphreys' fine printings on hand made paper.

London: Heinemann, 1922. 3 volume set, 9 1/4 inches tall. A sparkling set with gilt raised bands, twin labels and fine gilt tooling to the panels. Top edges gilt. Some foxing to the preliminaries then clean. Page was the United States ambassador to Great Britain in World War 1.

London: Clarke, 1807-1810. 7 volumes (of 10), 9 inches tall. A rather sombre half morocco by Zaehnsdorf with gilt lettering and centre tool in a smooth back. Top edges gilt, the rest deckled. Armorial bookplate. With 350 engraved plates. A further 3 volumes were printed. Here we have the first 7 volumes, exceptionally tall and clean in a fine signed binding.

A very bright full straight grain morocco by Maclehose with gilt raised bands, gilt pallets, double fillets framing the boards, dentelles and all edges gilt. Portrait. A small mark on the lower board, otherwise a pristine copy of the works of Shelley, one of England's great Romantic Poets.

A scarce quarto late Victorian edition in an imposing half morocco by Zaehnsdorf with raised bands and gilt centre tools and top edge. With 10 tipped on hand coloured plates and numerous vignettes throughout on india paper by John Leech. Rather large ink inscription on the past down endpaper.
