The boards are framed with gilt centre tools and a gilt roll. Blue edges. Fine copies of this great work are very scarce and this one is spectacular. With the martial bookplate of Vane Londonderry, From the library of Charles William Vane (formerly Stewart), third Marquess of Londonderry. Vane served with distinction throughout the Peninsula War. His dashing and dandified portrait by Sir Thomas Lawrence is at the National Portrait Gallery. He amassed magnificent libraries in his various Country Houses.

A wonderful copy of a scarce book in full Regency straight grain morocco with gilt raised bands, gilt pallets, the board framed with a wide blind roll and a double gilt fillet. All edges gilt. Embellished with 27 folding hand coloured engraved plans illustrating the cavalry manouevers. This copy is inscribed ' from the author' and was from the library of Lord Londonderry, though without his bookplate.

Sakoontala: or, The Lost Ring.

A superb Cosway style binding with a portrait miniature of an Oriental King in the upper board framed within very ornate and fine gilt tooling. Gilt raised bands and dense elaborate gilt tooling to the panels. Gilt dentelles and all edges. A neat leather monogrammed book plate. Every page is decorated with delightful borders and decorated title-page, frontispiece and 14 further illustrations. Very slight rubbing but overall a splendid copy of this celebrated tale.

With gilt raised bands, gilt paletts, dentelles and all edges. 71 very fine hand coloured aquatints of which 68 are by Robert Cruikshank and 2 by Thomas Rowlandson and 1 by T. Wageman. Featuring rollicking adventures in London, Eton, Brighton, The Isle of Wight and other fashionable hotspots, we follow the 'raffish life of English pleasure seekers'. The author Charles Molloy Westmacott, using the nom de plume Bernard Blackmantle, partly to deflect the torrent of controversy that welcomed the book's publication, was renowned for his satirisation of English high society.

The straight grain of the boards is framed within a series of gilt fillets and rolls. All the edges are gauffered. Embellished with 25 full page steel engraved views and further vignettes and full page wood engravings throughout. Slight foxing to the frontispiece and title page, otherwise clean and with minor abrasions to the upper board. A remarkable example of this fine edition.

Limited to 150 copies, of which this is No. 66, all 14pp. printed on vellum with a hand coloured frontispiece by Walter Crane and a hand coloured tailpiece. Initials in gold, red and blue. An exquisite work printed at the Essex House Press, Campden in Gloucestershire 'under the care of' C. R. Ashbee.

Triple gilt fillets, corner tools and a lovely blind tooled roll frame the boards. With the armorial bookplate of Lord Kinnaird of Rossie Priory. Sporadic foxing. As is often the case with heavy full russia calf of this period the joints are fragile, there are a couple of splits but the volumes are all still firm and solid and look excellent on the shelf. An Essay on Woman.

With wide gilt raised bands, fine gilt tooled panels, boards, dentelles and all edges. Printed in black and red, reportedly in a deluxe edition of 250. The extraordinary Wilkes, member of the Knights of St. Francis of Wycombe, also known as the Hellfire Club, wrote this pornographic poem dedicated to the courtier Fanny Murray entitled "An Essay on Woman" as a parody of Alexander Pope's "An Essay on Man". Having been outlawed in 1769 he became Lord Mayor of London in 1774!
