With all 100 engraved plates, mostly folding. An interesting work covering civil, military and naval architecture. A very good looking set. With a small stamp on the title pages and small ticket of 'Domus Aquensis Societatis Jesu' on the pastedown endpapers. In the original French.

Paris: Salliant & Nyon and Desaint, 1770-1798. 16 volume set, 10.5 inches tall. Fine full calf bindings, typical of the late 18th century with gilt raised bands, twin labels and floral gilt tooling to the panels. Pink edges. This a complete set though evidently made up from two sets, as can be seen by the variation in the bindings. There is some ancient minor worming but the volumes are in excellent bright condition with no splitting or loss. A great looking set of this classic history of France.

The spine is superbly tooled in the aesthetic manner with morocco onlays, the boards are bound with a natural tan morocco. Gilt top edges. This set in number 3 of 12 copies ,out of a limited edition of 300, on 'imperiales du Japon' with the plates in 4 states and the vignettes in 3. An unsentimental and gripping account of military life with the concept of honour vanishing from the post Napoleonic army. A superb set in pristine condition. In the original French.

The boards framed within gilt fillets and a gilt roll. Engraved frontispiece. Neat ink inscription dated 1833 on first blank and previous owner's name on the title page, dated 1864. Voltaire's epic poem on the evils of religious extremism and civil disorder in French, printed and bound in England.

Paris: Ollendorff, 1897. Half crushed morocco by Durvand, 7.5 inches tall. With raised bands, label and gilt top edge. The foredge has not been trimmed. Causing a rather eccentric effect with some leaves extending about an inch further than others, a deluxe style of the period. There is an inscription from the author to an A.M.R. Rolo. A lovely. copy.
