A gilt fillet frames the boards, the upper of which has a handsome gilt prize block. On the first blank is a neat prize bookplate dated 1923. Light foxing particularly on the title page. Twenty of Shakespeare's most popular plays are summarised by Charles and Mary Lamb, several of which are illustrated.

Full roan with twin labels and fine gilt tooling to the spines with particularly handsome cartouches for the volume numbers and bow and arrows and quiver in the panels. Old neat inscription on the pastedown endpaper, the blank and on the title page. The corners are scuffed and bumped and the labels are creased but no splitting and overall a pretty set.
