Leaves from the Journal of Our Life in the Highlands from 1848 to 1861.
London: Smith, Elder, & Co., 1869. Leather spine and wooden Mauchline Ware boards, 7 inches tall. With raised bands and gilt tooling to the panels around a thistle centre tool. The front board bears in image of Queen Victoria seated in front of spinning wheel above some text, the rear board shows Dunkeld Cathedral. The volume is illustrated with the 6 engravings called for and numerous vignettes but also with 12 mounted original photographs. All edges gilt. There is a little foxing especially to the mounts of the photographs but overall in excellent condition, with no chipping to the boards.

London: John Murray, 1813. 3 volume set, 8 1/2 inches tall. A superb set, fresh from an English Country House, of this scarce history in Regency tree calf with gilt pallets and fine title labels. Speckled edges. With an armorial bookplate and the neat ink former owner's name at the head of the title pages, 'James F. Leitch'. Some scuffing and superficial scratches, overall a lovely set of this history in English, translated from the French.

The Scenery and Antiquities of Ireland.
London: George Virtue (1841). 2 volume set, 11 inches tall. A superb half hard grain morocco with splendid wide gilt raised bands, gilt framed panels and all edges gilt. The early Victorian binding has a very interesting ribbed paper on the boards and fine end papers. Embellished with I map, 2 engraved title pages and 118 full page engraved views. There is no portrait as is often the case. Some foxing to the plates. There is a small superficial stain to the upper board of volume 2. A lovely set.

London: Richard Bentley, 1834. Full Calf, 8 1/2 inches tall. A most unusual early Victorian full calf binding by E. Watson of Marylebone High Street, and with their ticket. With raised bands, gilt pallets and neat geometric gilt tooling. Gilt corner tools and double fillets frame the boards. Ink inscription on the front free endpaper. A very clean copy of the second edition of this travelogue by the writer and art critic best known for his 'Gothic Novel' "Vathek".

With the gilt prize block of Waterloo College on the upper board and their bookplate on the front paste down end paper. Well illustrated throughout. Some light foxing. The title continues "...the Natural History and geology of the Countries Visited during the Voyage of H.M.S. Beagle Round the World, under the Command of Captain Fitz Roy, R.N.."

A Tour Through Paris, Illustrated with 21 Coloured-Plates.
London: William Sams, 1822. Full morocco, 14 1/2 inches tall. In a later full crushed morocco by Zaehnsdorf with gilt raised bands and delicate gilt tooling to the panels. A panel with elaborate gilt corner tooling and a wide and elegant roll frames the boards. Wide gilt dentelles and all edges. The folio has been preserved in a sturdy buckram case, ensuring the pristine condition of the volume. Tissues guard the plates, which show scenes of many vibrantly hand-coloured characters rather than emphasising the great buildings of the city which tend to be in the background. We see a lively portrayal of beautifully costumed Parisians in diverse walks of life. A splendid copy of one of the finest books of the period on Paris.

A spectacular Regency full straight grain morocco binding with wide elaborately gilt tooled raised bands and superb and complex gilt and blind tooling to the boards. Very fine wide dentelles and all edges gilt. Faint signs of the removal of a bookplate in both volumes, very slight rubbing minor foxing to the plates and tissues. With all 50 full page engravings called for. A charming well illustrated work in an exceptional binding of the highest quality.

A remarkable Georgian full straight grain morocco with gilt raised bands, very fine gilt tooling to the panels and an extraordinary series of blind fillets and rolls framing the boards. With gilt dentelles and all edges. Embellished with aquatint vignettes on the engraved title pages, and a further 45 engraved or aquatint plates. There is heavy foxing to the title pages and less to the rest of the prints. The binding itself is rubbed but firm and not splitting. A striking copy of the second, enlarged, edition.

From the library of Vane Londonderry, Charles William Vane (formerly Stewart), third Marquess of Londonderry. Vane served with distinction throughout the Peninsula War. His dashing and dandified portrait by Sir Thomas Lawrence is at the National Portrait Gallery. He amassed magnificent libraries in his various Country Houses. This is the first English edition with half titles, folding engraved map, folding engraved plan of Madrid, folding engraved view of Gibraltar and a further 8 folding engraved plates.

Embellished with 25 full page steel engraved views and further vignettes and full page wood engravings throughout.
