A fine selection of classical Greek poetry including verse from The Iliad; The Odyssey, Pindar; Aeschylus; Sophocles; Euripides and Aristophanes, amongst many others.

London: John Sharpe, 1818. Full calf, 6 3/4 inches tall. A lovely Regency binding with gilt raised bands, extra gilt panels and twin gilt fillets and a gilt roll frame the boards. With the Fothergill armorial bookplate and the ink stamp of Baron Belmore, of Castle Coole in County Fermanagh. Embellished with the engravings of Richard Westall, which all have a degree of foxing. A splendid copy of one of the 18th century's most popular poems.

London: Baynes and Son et al., 1825. Full calf, 5 inches tall. A beautiful little Georgian full calf with wide gilt raised bands and exquisite gilt tooling to the panels. A wide gilt roll and floral blind roll frame the boards. There is some slight foxing to the engraved frontispiece and the engraved title page, otherwise perfectly clean. Very popular in his day, James Thomson was a great 18th century poet, famous for these two poems and also for writing the lyrics of "Rule, Britannia!"

An impressive set in Victorian full diced calf with gilt raised bands, contrasting label and gilt tooling to the panels. Red edges. Some rubbing but with no splitting. Embellished with 7 folding hand coloured maps and 66 engraved views, portraits and maps. The portrait of Lord Raglan appears not to have been bound in. This History gives 'Full Details of the Operations of the Allied Armies'. A very clean and handsome set of this great History of the Crimean War.

The boards are very finely tooled creating an elaborate gilt panel with red calf onlays. Gilt dentelles and all edges. Foxing to the reverse of the free endpapers and first blank then perfectly clean. This volume contains 2 of Tennyson's great Idylls ,'Gareth and Lynette,' follows the coming of Arthur, and the other title in this volume, 'The Last Tournament', immediately precedes 'Guinevere'. A delightful volume.

Subtitled 'exhibiting the most are and remarkable objects of interest in the Metropolis; with nearly fifty years' personal recollections'. The English Poet and novelist, Tupper, was one of the most read poets in the United Kingdom and North America for several decades, becoming a great favorite of Queen Victoria. After huge initial success 'Proverbial Philosophy', a volume of verse, he fell out of fashion and he never regained his great popularity. A superb Victorian binding in pristine condition.

A spectacular Regency full straight grain morocco binding with wide elaborately gilt tooled raised bands and superb and complex gilt and blind tooling to the boards. Very fine wide dentelles and all edges gilt. Faint signs of the removal of a bookplate in both volumes, very slight rubbing minor foxing to the plates and tissues. With all 50 full page engravings called for. A charming well illustrated work in an exceptional binding of the highest quality.

London: Johnson, Cuthell et al., 1804. 2 volume set, 11 1/4 inches tall. A simple but elegant later half morocco by Ramage with gilt raised bands, ornate centre tools and top edges gilt. Decorated with portrait frontispiece and 14 very fine full page engravings. Bookplate. This hugely successful epic poem, written by Tasso in the middle of the 16th century, tells the story of the First Crusade in which Godfrey of Bouillon leads the Christian Knights into battle, and eventual victory, against the Muslims, to take Jerusalem in 1099. The Poem is a heady mixture of violence and romance set in a romantic and exotic setting that proved particularly popular before the French Revolution and during the Romantic period. A splendid copy in pristine condition.
