A most attractive pale honey calf binding by Riviere in the classic mid Victorian manner with gilt raised bands, twin labels and elegant gilt tooling to the panels. Wide gilt dentelles and all edges gilt. The first issue in book form. Embellished with 46 full page engravings and vignettes throughout by the Author. Slight foxing to the blanks otherwise a fine clean set.

London: The Harleian Society, 1871. Full morocco, 10.5 inches tall. A superb binding by Tregaskis at the the Caxton Head with gilt raised bands, simple framed panels and boards, dentelles and top edge gilt. Slightly rubbed and a few minor scratches. Harleian Society volume V. With 2 bookplates.

Mahon: Gilles Lanlois,1756. 3 volume set 6.5 inches tall. Fine full mottled calf with gilt raised bands, twin labels and gilt floral centre tools. Pink edges. Frontispiece and woodcut ornaments. Slight damage to the headcap of volume 1 otherwise in superb condition. A lovely set of this very rare title.

London: Harding, Triphook and Lepard, 1825. Full morocco, 6.5 inches tall. A superb Georgian binding with gilt raised bands, label, gilt framed panels and boards, dentelles and all edges. Engraved portrait and title page. Sold at Sotheby's 29th February 1856. Contains all six of Terence's plays, viz. Andria (The Girl from Andros) 166 B.C.; Hecyra (The Mother-in-Law) 165 B.C.; Heauton Timorumenos (The Self-Tormentor) 163 B.C.; Phormio 161 B.C.; Eunuchus 161 B.C.; Adelphoe (The Brothers) 160 B.C.. A fine copy in the original Latin.

London: William Pickering, 1847. 2 volume set, 6 1/2 inches tall. A very fine Victorian full calf with gilt raised bands, twin labels and superb gilt tooling to the panels. Twin gilt fillets frame the boards. James Thomson, the 18th century poet now best known for writing the lyrics of 'Rule, Britannia!', was one of the most popular and influential poets of his century. A fine copy in excellent condition.

London: Bohn, 1855. Full calf, 9.5 inches tall. A very fine classic full calf by Nutt of Drury Lane, one of the smartest Westend binders of the period. With gilt raised bands, label and very ornate gilt tooling to the panels. Lacks blanks. Double column. A very handsome copy of this classic history.

London: Smith, Elder, and Co., 1827. Full calf, 9 inches tall. A splendid Victorian full calf by Hayday with gilt raised bands, extra gilt panels and striking red label. Gilt dentelles and all edges pink. With the leather bookplate of William Twopeny. The frontispiece and title page are heavily foxed but the rest of the text block is clean. A charming and highly detailed account of London Bridge, through the ages, embellished with 56 engraved vignettes.

Embellished with wood engravings throughout. A splendid copy of this great 18th century poem in a signed mid-Victorian binding.

Portrait and vignettes to the text. A lovely red calf gilt bookplate referring perhaps to an educational establishment.

All edges gilt. With the bookplate and signiture of Lord Elden. Slight fading to the spines and very minor worming to some joints but still a firm and handsome set.

London: Faulder, Egerton, and Williams, 1789. 2 volume set, 8.5 inches tall. A most attractive 18th century tree calf with gilt bands, twin labels and elegant gilt tooling to the panels. There is some splitting to the joints of the upper boards but the books are still firm and tight.

A splendid Victorian full calf with gilt raised bands, twin labels, ornate gilt tooled panels, dentelles, gilt and blind rolls and gilt corner tools framing the boards. All edges gilt. Some foxing to the engraved frontispieces and title pages, otherwise clean. A delightful, anecdotal record of the bizarre and colourful events of old London town.

From the Library of the Late Christopher Foyle of Beeleigh Abbey. First edition of this profusely illustrated fascinating study of the fashions of 1807 through examples from 24 fashion periodicals, all published in 1807. 37 fine plates. With extraordinary embroidered fabric labels from the cover and spine and a matching embroidered bookmark. An eccentric and charming work in pristine condition.

A delightful Regency full calf binding with gilt and inked bands, delicate gilt tooling to the panels and gilt and blind fillets framing the diced boards. Armorial bookplate of Sarah Phillott. Embellished with 8 charming engraved plates illustrative of young Gilbert's rural amatory adventures. This is a superb copy of this scarce work.
