London: J. Dodsley, 1765. 3 volume set, 6 1/2 inches tall. A splendid late Victorian full crushed morocco by Webb & Hunt with gilt raised bands and extra gilt panels. Twin gilt fillets frame the boards. Armorial bookplate. A very neat set of the first edition of this most famous collection of ballads and popular songs. When published it captured the public's imagination, influencing such poets as Coleridge, Wordsworth and Walter Scott.
