London, Savoy: Printed by Tho. Newcomb, for the author, 1667. Full morocco, 14 1/2 inches tall. A superb tall later binding by the great firm of Bedford, with gilt raised bands, twin labels and magnificent gilt tooling to the panels. A series of gilt fillet frame the boards, wide dentelles and all edges gilt. First edition in red and black, embellished with 5 double page engraved plates and 57 full page. With the armorial bookplates of the Hon. Hugh Howard and the Fox Pointe Collection. Slight rubbing but a very good, clean copy with wide margins.

London and Paris: Boussod, Valadon & Co. (GOUPIL), 1896. Full calf, 12 3/4 inches tall. A superb full calf binding by Henderson & Bisset with raised bands and 'regal' centre tools framed within a series of pallets to the panels. A series of gilt and blind fillets with the gilt 'regal' corner tools corner tool frame the rose and crown insignia of Elizabeth Regina. Gilt dentelles and top edge.. This is the best edition of this lavish work with the plates in 2 states in a limitation of 200 numbers and 100 lettered copies of which this is number 70. Colour frontispiece and many monochrome plates throughout. A bookplate has been removed and there is some superficial damage caused by a long defunct insect, overall a magnificent copy.

A luxurious full crushed morocco by Ramage with gilt raised bands and elegant gilt tooling to the panels and boards. Delightful gilt dentelles and top edge. Occasion very light foxing. With a colour frontispiece and monochrome plates and vignettes throughout. A lavish work on the Life of Queen Victoria at the height of her reign.

Gilt fillets framing the boards, dentelles and all edges. From the Library of the Late Christopher Foyle of Beeleigh Abbey. With 17 plates and extra-Illustrated with several engraved portraits. A lovely copy of this history of frolicking and intrigue at the 17th century French court of the Sun King.

From the Library of the Late Christopher Foyle of Beeleigh Abbey. Finely printed by Humphreys on hand-made paper. Translated from "Vie des Dames", these biographies of the most influential women described in Brantôme's memoirs of the illustrious men and women whom he had known, written down towards the end of his life at the beginning of the 17th century. A fine copy in English.

London: Henry Colburn & Co., 1849. 3 volume set, 9 inches tall. An unusual and very elegant half crushed morocco with three raised gilt bands and ornate gilt tooling to the panels. Gilt top edges. The Sun King, Louis XIV, was king of France from 1643 until his death in 1715, the longest reign of any sovereign at 72 years and 110 days. Miss Julia Pardoe was an English poet, novelist, historian and traveller. Her most enduring works are her French histories which continued to be printed into the twentieth century.

Paris: L. Carteret, 1910. 2 volume set, 8 1/2 inches tall. A superb full morocco binding by Bickers with gilt raised bands and very smart gilt pallets framing the panels and boards. Gilt dentelles and top edges. Original wraps bound in. With the bookplate of Alfred de Curzon, 19th century French painter. Slight foxing to the preliminaries. Madame Campan was in the service of Marie-Anoinette before and during the horrors of the French Revolution. This set is number 204 exemplaires sur papier velin du Marais. There are 63 very fine engravings by Leon Boisson from illustrations by LALAUZE. In the original French.

A sumptuous binding by Riviere with gilt raised bands and very fine extra gilt tooling to the panels and gilt roll and triple fillet framing the boards. Gilt dentelles and all edges. Beautifully printed and with illustrations throughout including the colour portrait of Queen Elizabeth I. One of a series of extravagantly produced, mostly Royal, biographies. Slight rubbing but still in very fine condition.

Paris: Baudouin Fréres, 1824. Half vellum, 8 inches tall. an elegant volume in a neat half vellum binding with gilt pallets and centre tools and contrasting green label. With the bookplate of Vane Londonderry. From the library of Charles William Vane (formerly Stewart), third Marquess of Londonderry. Vane served with distinction throughout the Peninsula War. His dashing and dandified portrait by Sir Thomas Lawrence is at the National Portrait Gallery. He amassed magnificent libraries in his various Country Houses. Engraved frontispiece. Following the revolution, Antoine, the younger brother of the last King of France, fled France and died in exile in England. In the original French.

London: John Murray, 1827. Full morocco, 11 inches tall. A magnificent Regency full straight grain morocco with the gilt title within a cartouche to the spine and the arms of the Earl of Leitrim (motto "Patris Virtutibus") to the boards. With frontispiece facsimile of an ALS from King George III. Slight rubbing to the head and tail of the spine but with no splitting or loss. This superb regency binding, presumably commissioned by Nathaniel Clements, 2nd Earl of Leitrim (1768-1858) houses a controversial series of letters between the King and his ministers.
