London, Savoy: Printed by Tho. Newcomb, for the author, 1667. Full morocco, 14 1/2 inches tall. A superb tall later binding by the great firm of Bedford, with gilt raised bands, twin labels and magnificent gilt tooling to the panels. A series of gilt fillet frame the boards, wide dentelles and all edges gilt. First edition in red and black, embellished with 5 double page engraved plates and 57 full page. With the armorial bookplates of the Hon. Hugh Howard and the Fox Pointe Collection. Slight rubbing but a very good, clean copy with wide margins.

London: Printed by Bensley for Triphook, 1817. 2 volume set, 9.5 inches tall. A binding in full straight grain morocco of the highest quality attributed to C(harles) Lewis on an ancient tipped-in slip from an old catalogue. With wide gilt raised bands, exceptionally fine and dense gilt tooling to the panels and neat gilt tooling framing the boards. Superb gilt doublures. With the splendid armorial bookplate of the great bibliophile Prince Augustus Frederick, Duke of Sussex, whose magnificent library was housed at Kensington Palace. One of only 50 large paper sets with the woodcuts, after Thurston, being in 2 states, one on india paper. Some minor foxing.

Oxford: The University Press, 1849. 7 volume set, 9 1/2 inches tall. A splendid early Victorian full calf by Budden of Cambridge with gilt raised bands, twin labels and very fine gilt tooling to the panels. A simple gilt fillet frames the boards. With the armorial bookplate of J.F.D. Tutt. With a neat ink inscription on the first blank dated 1849. A magnificent set of Clarendon's great 'History of the Rebellion and Civil Wars in England', as it was originally titled on its publication between 1702 and 1704.

London: John Murray, 1827. Full morocco, 11 inches tall. A magnificent Regency full straight grain morocco with the gilt title within a cartouche to the spine and the arms of the Earl of Leitrim (motto "Patris Virtutibus") to the boards. With frontispiece facsimile of an ALS from King George III. Slight rubbing to the head and tail of the spine but with no splitting or loss. This superb regency binding, presumably commissioned by Nathaniel Clements, 2nd Earl of Leitrim (1768-1858) houses a controversial series of letters between the King and his ministers.

London, Paris, New York: Goupil & Co., 1901. Full morocco, 12.75 inches tall. A stunning copy of the best edition bound by Zaehnsdorf for Wm. Brown in full crushed morocco with raised bands and elegant gilt panels. The royal crest on the boards is framed within a series of gilt and blind fillets and corner tools. Gilt dentelles and top edges. Colour portrait and monochrome and sepia full page plates and vignettes throughout. Limited to just 300 copies on Japanese paper, of which this is number 91. Armorial bookplate. A splendid copy of this luxurious edition.

London & Paris: Boussod, Valadon & Co. (Goupil), 1896. Full morocco, 12 1/2 inches tall. A sumptuous binding by Riviere with gilt raised bands and very fine extra gilt tooling to the panels and gilt roll and triple fillet framing the boards. Gilt dentelles and all edges. Beautifully printed and with illustrations throughout including the colour portrait of Queen Elizabeth I. One of a series of extravagantly produced, mostly Royal, biographies. Slight rubbing but still in very fine condition.

With gilt raised bands, twin labels and ornate gilt tooling to the panels. Twin gilt fillets and blind fillets frame the boards. Gilt top edges. Illustrated throughout. Foxing to the foredges. The original wrappers bound in. A splendid set of fascinating correspondence.

A luxurious full crushed morocco by Ramage with gilt raised bands and elegant gilt tooling to the panels and boards. Delightful gilt dentelles and top edge. Occasion very light foxing. With a colour frontispiece and monochrome plates and vignettes throughout. A lavish work on the Life of Queen Victoria at the height of her reign.

A superb binding by Gruel with raised bands, simple elegant framed panels and boards, gilt dentelles and top edge. Limited to 300 copies printed on Japanese paper of which this is number 11. With the plates in 2 states. Fine colour frontispiece. Slight blotchiness to the boards but still a magnificent copy.

A superb full calf binding by Henderson & Bisset with raised bands and 'regal' centre tools framed within a series of pallets to the panels. A series of gilt and blind fillets with the gilt 'regal' corner tools corner tool frame the rose and crown insignia of Elizabeth Regina. Gilt dentelles and top edge.. This is the best edition of this lavish work with the plates in 2 states in a limitation of 200 numbers and 100 lettered copies of which this is number 70. Colour frontispiece and many monochrome plates throughout. A bookplate has been removed and there is some superficial damage caused by a long defunct insect, overall a magnificent copy.

Hand coloured frontispiece and 39 further full page plates illustrating the history of Elizabeth I. Some foxing to the frontispiece and title page and slight rubbing to the joints and edges.
