Oxford: The Clarendon Press, 1906. Quarter Vellum, 7 inches tall. A sparkling half vellum on a smooth back with twin labels and gilt floral tooling in the Art Nouveau style. A splendid anthology containing 100 songs and ballads about the sea over a period of 500 years.

London: Macmillan and Co., 1892. Full morocco, 6 1/4 inches tall. A very pretty binding by Bumpus with gilt raised bands and charming gilt tooling with hearts and leaves in the panels. Twin gilt fillets and the same tooling in the corners frame the boards. Gilt dentelles and all edges. There is a large bookplate on the free end paper and foxing on the half title, otherwise clean. A delightful copy of the selected verse of this great 17th century English lyric poet.

London: Macmillan and Co., 1910. Full morocco, 6 inches tall. An exquisite binding by Ramage with gilt raised bands, dense gilt tooling with tiny blue band onlays and exceptionally fine gilt tooling with extensive blue onlays to the boards. With elaborate gilt tooled dentelles on watered silk doublures and free 'end papers'. Ink inscriptions on first blank. One of the best titles in Ramage's repertoire of little luxury binding in pristine condition.

Chiswick: From the Press of C. Whittingham, 1822. Full calf, 5 inches tall. A charming little Regency straight grain by T. Smyth of Exeter, and with their ticket. With gilt bands and elaborate gilt tooling to the panels. A flowery gilt roll frames the boards. Speckled edges. A neat ink former owner's name, Mary Anne Davey, on the first blank and inside the rear free end paper. With an engraved title page and vignettes.

A splendid little luxurious binding by Ramage with gilt raised bands and delicate gilt tooling to the panels and boards.Gilt dentelles and watered silk doublures. With an armorial bookplate. All edges gilt. A little bit grubby and with rubbing to the shoulders, but still a delightful little copy of this fine anthology.

London: Macmillan and Co., 1904. Full morocco, 6 inches tall. A beautiful example of one of Ramage's luxury bindings, so popular in the Edwardian period. Full crushed morocco gilt raised bands and sumptuous gilt tooling to the panels and boards. With wide and elaborate gilt dentelles and watered silk doublures and free 'endpapers'. Light foxing to the preliminaries and slight rubbing but still a remarkable and impressive binding on this charming anthology 'selected from the best songs and lyrical poems in the English language'.

London: Meiklejohn and Son, 1911. Full morocco, 6 3/4 inches tall. A splendid binding by Zaehnsdorf with gilt raised bands and neat framed panels to the spine and elaborate gilt tooling with pink petal onlays to the upper boards, framing the title. Gilt dentelles and all edges. Printed on India paper. A fine copy of this anthology of Scottish poetry.

Oxford: J. Parker, 1819. Full calf, 6 1/2 inches tall. A very good looking Regency full calf with wide gilt raised bands, black label and bold gilt centre tooling to the panels. A series of gilt and blind rolls, fillets and corner tooling and a blue inlaid panel create interesting panels, typical of the period, on both boards. An ink inscription, dated 1821 is found on the first blank. Slight rubbing and scuffing but still a fine copy.

Perth: R. Morison and Son, 1786. Full morocco, 7 inches tall. A late 18th century full straight grain morocco with gilt bands and splendid gilt centre tools and remarkable gilt foliate gauffered edges. From Morison's Edition of Scotish Poets. With 2 full page engravings. With some rubbing and a scuff on the lower board, otherwise firm and solid and clean.

London: Macmillan, 1894. Full calf, 6 1/2 inches tall. A remarkable cuir-ciselé, sculptured, or chiseled binding, in pristine condition, thanks to the felt lined solander box in which it is housed. The smooth spine is simply gilt tooled and the upper board has a floral cuir-ciselé design within twin gilt fillets with the date August 12 1897 in gilt. The lower boards has a single cuir-ciselé flower to the upper corner. Dentelles and top edge gilt. With an unusual endpaper with stenciled petals. Slight foxing to the preliminaries, otherwise clean. Arthur Hugh Clough was an English poet and famously the devoted assistant to Florence Nightingale and the brother of suffragist Anne Clough. A lovely and unique binding.

London: William Pickering, 1839. 3 volume set, 6 1/4 inches tall. A very handsome Edwardian binding in splendid full crushed morocco by Bumpus. With raised bands and elegant gilt and blind pallets and fillets creating neat frames to the panels and boards. Gilt dentelles and all edges. Portrait. A charming set of the works of Robert Burns, a great romantic poet and lyricist, celebrated as Scotland's national poet, in pristine condition.

London: Strahan & Co., 1872. Full morocco, 6 3/4 inches tall. First edition. A beautiful little binding with gilt raised bands, contrasting label and delicate floral gilt tooling to the panels. The boards are very finely tooled creating an elaborate gilt panel with red calf onlays. Gilt dentelles and all edges. Foxing to the reverse of the free endpapers and first blank then perfectly clean. This volume contains 2 of Tennyson's great Idylls ,'Gareth and Lynette,' follows the coming of Arthur, and the other title in this volume, 'The Last Tournament', immediately precedes 'Guinevere'. A delightful volume.

London: Sidgwick & Jackson, 1917. Full morocco, 7 inches tall. A very smart full crushed morocco by Bumpus with gilt raised bands elegantly gilt framed panels and boards. Gilt dentelles and all edges. A super copy of the poetical works of Rupert Brooke, English poet best known for his war sonnets written during the First World War.

London: Chatto and Windus, 1909. Full morocco, 6 inches tall. A delightful full pink crushed morocco binding by Bumpus with gilt raised bands and very fine and unusual gilt tooling to the panels. Triple gilt fillets and ornate corner tooling frame the boards. Gilt dentelles and all edges. Watered-silk doublures and endpapers. A scarce anthology, beautifully bound, in pristine condition.

A handsome little set in a Victorian full straight grain calf binding with raised bands, twin labels and ornate gilt tooling to the panels. All edges gilt. Portrait. Slight foxing to the preliminaries otherwise a neat, clean set of the poetic works of this 'charmingly humorous' lyric poet.

Boston, Lincolnshire: Robert Roberts, 1875, 1875 & 1876. 3 Volume Set, 7 inches tall. A beautiful late Victorian full crushed morocco binding Andrew Grieve of Edinburgh in pristine condition. With gilt raised bands and extra gilt tooling to the panels. Dense gilt corner tooling and a single pallet frame the boards. Gilt top edges. These reprints are limited to 400 copies and were originally printed in the seventeenth century. With 2 blookplates to each volume. A selection of Restoration poetry for 'Lovers of Wit' and as an 'Antidote Against Melancholy'.

London: J. Johnson, 1808. 2 volume set, 5 1/2 inches tall. An absolutely delightful little set in Regency tree calf. With gilt bands, twin labels and very delicate little centre tools in the panels. With the binder's ticket of B. Scott of Carlisle. Speckled edges. Portrait. With the neat ink inscription 'M.D. Ballantine Sept 24 1808 on both first blanks.

London: Lawrence & Bullen, 1891. 2 volume set, 7 inches tall. A splendid tree calf binding by Otto Shulze of Edinburgh with raised bands, fine gilt tooling to the panels and labels. A delicate gilt fillets frames the boards, wide dentelles and gilt top edge. Bookplate. This excellent large paper edition is printed on hand made paper and limited to just 200 copies. Edited by Alfred Pollard and with a preface by Algernon Swinburne, who considered Herrick to be "the greatest song writer ever born of English race". A lovely set of the most celebrated works of this great English 17th century poet.

Edinburgh: Constable and Co., 1820. 12 volumes bound in 6, 7 inches tall. A delightful set bound in beautiful full diced 'Russia' calf with wide gilt raised bands and superb Regency gilt panels. A floral gilt fillet frames the boards. Portrait. With the armorial bookplate of James Beveridge Duncan of Damside and a neat ink gilt inscription from the period: "the Hon'ble E.G. Lake from her affec. uncle". There are a couple of minor marks to the headcaps and slight foxing but overall a fine set of the first collected edition of Scott's Poetical Works which became hugely popular throughout the Western World.
