Oxford: University Press, 1909. Full calf, 7 inches tall. A beautiful 'Oxford Binding' with gilt raised bands, floral tooling to the panels and a gilt fillet framing the tree calf boards. With an ink previous owner's name dated 1913 on the first blank. A fine anthology 'Being 1150 Poems and Extracts by 300 Authors' covering over 600 years, in a delightful Edwardian tree calf.

Edinburgh & London: James Nichol & James Nisbet, 1853. 2 volume set, 8 3/4 inches tall. A very smart Victorian pink full calf by Bickers, with gilt raised bands, twin labels and fine gilt tooling to the panels. A readable edition 'With Life, Critical Dissertation, and Explanatory Notes' by Gilfillan. Slight rubbing, but a clean set in excellent condition of the works of one of the greatest 17th century English poets.

Oxford: The Clarendon Press, 1926. Full calf, 7 inches tall. A superb full calf binding by Riviere with gilt raised bands, twin labels, ornate floral gilt tooling to the panels dentelles and all edges gilt. The finely decorated boards combine gilt tooling on a ground of speckled and plain calf. A splendid anthology in a beautiful binding.

London: Cadell and Moxon, 1834. Full morocco, 8 inches tall. A superb early Victorian full hard grain morocco binding by the great firm of Hayday with the following inscription in pencil on the paste down endpaper: "Bound in prize leather, Exhibited at the Great Exhibition, Hyde Park 1851". With raised bands, fine ornate gilding around a single 'Aldine' vine leaf. A series of gilt rolls and fillets frame the Grecian Urn device on the boards. Gilt dentelles and all edges. Armorial bookplate. Roger's poetry is mostly remembered for the fine engraved vignettes by Turner and others in this edition rather than for its artistic merit. Slight foxing, as usual.

Edinburgh: James Nichol, 1858. Full calf, 8 3/4 inches tall. A rather beautiful Victorian full pink calf with gilt raised bands, green label and superb extra gilt tooling to the panels. Twin gilt fillets and corner tools frame the boards. The three poets, Armstrong, Dyer and Green were near contemporary 18th century poets, being born within 15 years of each other.

London: John Murray, 1839. 3 volume set, 6 1/2" tall. Delightful set in a splendid half morocco binding with gilt raised bands and extra gilt panels. Armorial bookplate. A neat little set of the works of Henry Hart Milman, historian and professor of poetry at Oxford.

London: Macmillan and Co., 1887. 4 volume set, 7" tall. Handsome full Victorian calf with gilt raised bands, twin labels and neat gilt center tooling. Armorial bookplate. A neat ink previous owner's inscription dated, 1891, on the first blank. All edges gilt. A splendid and comprehensive list of the English poets from Geoffery Chaucer to Dante Gabriel Rossetti in excellent condition.

London: Strahan and Co., 1870. 10 volume set, 5 1/4" . An usually heavy sumptuous morocco binding with gilt raised bands and gilt and onlayed calf tooling. With dentelles and all edges gilt . The text is decorated with initials and headings. A really lovely little set.

London: John Murray, 1825. 2 volume set, 6 1/2 inches tall. An elegant set in a Georgian full calf with gilt bands, twin labels and elaborate gilt tooling to the panels. With the armorial bookplate of Robert Williams, from the recently dispersed library of a Dorset Country House. Portrait. Slight rubbing and light foxing to the portrait, overall a lovely copy of this scarce edition in English.

London: J. M. Dent & Co., c.1900. Full morocco, 5 3/4 inches tall. A wonderful example of one of Ramage's luxurious full morocco bindings (see our extensive selection), in pristine condition. With gilt raised bands, extraordinary extra gilt tooling to the panels and boards. With wide gilt doublures, watered silk 'end papers', and all edges gilt. Portrait and decorated title page. From the recently dispersed library of a Dorset Country House.

London: J. Johnson, 1798. 2 volume set, 6 1/2 inches tall. Very pretty little 18th century tree calf bindings with gilt bands on a smooth back, twin labels and ornate gilt tooling to the panels. With a neat ink previous owner's name "Mary Anne Watten (?) November 1825". Embellish with engravings by Stothard. A firm and clean set of these once hugely popular and influential poems.

London: Shakspeare Printing Office, 1804. Full morocco, 9 inches tall. A superb later crushed morocco by the great firm of Bedford. With gilt raised bands and very fine gilt tooling to the panels. Gilt dentelles and all edges. Slight rubbing. With delightful full page engravings and engraved vignettes by Bewick. With lives of Goldsmith and Parnell, Parnell's greatest poem, 'The Hermit' and Goldsmith's 'The Traveller' and 'The Deserted Village'.

London & Glasgow: Blackie and Son, 1840. 5 volume set, 6 1/2 inches tall. A very attractive little set in early Victorian full calf with gilt raised bands, twin labels and smart gilt tooled panels. Fine gilt and blind tooling decorate the boards. All edges gilt. Engraved frontispieces and title pages. Popular poet in his day much admired by his peers including Sir Walter Scott. He came from a humble background working as a shepherd, before achieving success as a poet in both English and Scottish.

Edinburgh: Silvester Doig et al. and London: Longman et al., 1812. 2 volumes bound in 1, 7 inches tall. A lovely full crushed morocco by Ramage with gilt raised bands, superb extra gilt panels and a gilt 'Cambridge ' panel to both boards. Gilt dentelles and top edge. With the armorial bookplate of Robert Kirk M.D.. On the dedication page and the title page of volume II is the neat ink stamp of Hill (booksellers of) Perth. Embellished with 2 portrait frontispieces and a further 6 engraved plates.

Edinburgh: William Paterson, 1877-79. 6 volume set, 9 inches tall. A superb late Victorian full straight grain morocco binding by Kerr & Richardson with gilt raised bands, delicately gilt framed panels and a gilt bust of Burns in the top panels. Twin gilt fillets frame the boards. Gilt dentelles and all edges. The text block is exceptionally clean. Profusely illustrated with portraits, plates and vignettes. A first edition of the the great William Scott Douglas edition in which the poems are arranged chronologically and in which the text and notes are the most complete and correct. A splendid set of this great edition in a fine binding by a great firm of Glasgow binders.

Edinburgh: Constable and London: Vernor & Hood, 1801. 2 volume set bound as 1, 7 1/2 inches tall. A later Victorian beautiful full crushed morocco binding by the great firm of Ramage with gilt raised bands and ornate gilt tooling to the panels. Gilt fillets frame the boards. Gilt dentelles and all edges. Bound with the glossary, errata and advertisements. Sir John Graham Dalyell was a Scottish advocate, antiquary and naturalist who studied 700 manuscripts in the preparation of this work.

London: Methuen and Co., 1894. Half morocco, 7 1/2 inches tall. A delightful binding by Zaehnsdorf with elaborate gilt floral tooling around a crossed brace of pistols on a smooth back. Gilt top edge. With an impressive 'Arthurian' bookplate. Foxing to the text. A splendid copy of these great poems and songs based on the men of the British army during the reign of Queen Victoria, including such classics as 'Gunga Din' and 'Mandalay'.

A beautiful little binding by Ramage with gilt raised bands, dense gilt tooling of many stars and dots around heart centre tools to the panels. On the boards onlays of calf create rosebuds with a wide border of stars and hearts. Delicately gilt tooled dentelles and watered silk doublures and all edges gilt. The rather extraordinary bookplate of Sibell Cromartie (Countess Cromartie of Castle Leod) is found on the pastedown 'endpaper'. A delightful volume of the poetical works of John Keats.
