London: John Murray, 1847. Full calf, 9.5 inches tall. A superb Victorian binding with gilt raised bands, red label and very fine extra gilt panels. Dentelles and all edges gilt.Foxed frontispiece and title page followed by a very clean double column text. Crabbe was hugely popular in his day and an influence on Byron, Austen and Wordsworth. Benjamin Britten's opera Peter Grimes is based on his great poem The Borough.

Dentelles and all edges gilt. One of the most popular poetical works of the period profusely embellished throughout with charming engravings.

London: J.F.Dove, 1826. Full vellum, 5 inches tall. A delightful little full vellum with gilt bands and delicate gilt tooling to the panels. A blue fillet frames the boards. Engraved frontispiece and title page.

A most accomplished Georgian straight grain morocco binding with gilt raised bands, extra gilt panels with Grecian lyre centre tools, dentelles and all edges gilt. The larger gilt Grecian lyre tool on the boards is framed within elaborate blind tooling. Engraved portrait.

An anthology of French poetry with the verse in the original French and the preface and notes in English. A delightful volume.

London: Longman et al., 1820. Full calf, 6 3/4 inches tall. A delightful Georgian binding with wide gilt raised bands elaborate gilt tooling to the panels, triple gilt fillets framing the boards and pink speckled edges. With splendid crude woodcuts illustrating the verse.

London: John Sharpe, 1826. Full Calf, 5 1/2 inches tall. A very accomplished full calf by the great firm of Bedford with gilt raised bands, extra gilt to the panels, a double fillet framing the boards and all edges gilt. The bookplate of Rissa. Some fading. An engraved title page and 5 further full page engravings.

London: Wenman and Hodgson, 1791. 4 volumes bound in 1, 5 1/4 inches tall. A slightly later half calf with wide gilt raised bands, blind pallets and label typical of the 1820's. Engraved frontispiece to volumes 1 and 3 opposite which is some degree of foxing, otherwise clean. A charming edition of the works of this tragic English satirist and poet.

London: Macmillan, 1913. Full calf, 6 inches tall. A revised and enlarged edition in fine full calf by Truslove and Hanson with gilt raised bands and a splendid gilt flower bud on a cream calf onlay to the spine and boards. Gilt dentelles and all edges. A great anthology "selected from the best songs and lyrical poems in the English language".

London: Cadell, 1796. Full calf, 6 inches tall. A beautiful little late 18th century speckled calf with gilt bands, twin labels and delightful gilt tooling to the panels. Decorated with 2 engraved plates.

London: Cooke, 1805. Full roan, 5 1/2 inches tall. A delightful little Georgian binding with gilt bands, floral centre tools and green label. Slightly rubbed and small loss of leather on the lower board next to the shoulder. Engraved frontispiece and two tail pieces.

London: Vernor and Hood et al., 1800. Half morocco, 7 1/4 inches tall. An elegant volume bound by J. Soulby of Ulverston and with their ticket. With gilt raised bands, unusual orange marbled paper on the boards and gilt sunburst centre tools. With delicate engraved plates some of which are stained. An interesting provincial binding of a neat edition of the poetry of this influential English poet of the 18th century. With a life by Dr. Johnson.

London: Warne and Co., c.1890. Full calf, 7 1/2 inches tall. A pristine late Victorian tree calf by Denny with gilt raised bands, contrasting blue label and dense and elaborate gilt tooling to the panels. twin gilt fillets and fine corner tooling frame the tree calf boards. Dentelles and all edges gilt.

London: Collins, c.1905. Half vellum, 7 1/2 inches tall. A very good looking Edwardian vellum binding decorated in the Art Nouveau style with a stylized gilt floral design and ornate label. With numerous illustrations and extra-illustrated with several original photographs dated May 1919 of the Lake District, one particularly picturesque image shows 'The Old Spinning Gallery' at Hartsop Patterdale. There is an ink inscription dated 1905 on the reverse of the free end paper.

Cambridge: University Press, 1922. Full morocco, 6.5 inches tall. A very handsome binding by Bumpus with raised bands, simple gilt and inked tooling framing the panels and boards. Dentelles and all edges gilt. A superb little copy of this verse anthology.

The straight grain on the boards is framed within a series of gilt and blind panels. With the ticket of 'Gardiner Bookseller & Stationer, Dublin'. Embellished with engravings from the designs by Richard Westall. Foxing facing the tissues.
