A handsome little set in a Victorian full straight grain calf binding with raised bands, twin labels and ornate gilt tooling to the panels. All edges gilt. Portrait. Slight foxing to the preliminaries otherwise a neat, clean set of the poetic works of this 'charmingly humorous' lyric poet.

Edinburgh: Constable, Miller & Murray, 1808. Full diced calf, 8.5 inches tall. A superb Regency binding with gilt and blind bands and very fine blind, gilt and inked tooling to the panels. The diced boards are framed within blind and gilt rolls. There is a neat ink inscription dated 1810 on the reverse of the free endpaper. A splendid example of a binding of this period on a fourth edition of this celebrated poem.

A splendid example of a binding of this period on a tenth edition of this celebrated poem.

A remarkable Victorian embossed binding with raised bands, blind centre tools and pallets to the spine and complex blind embossed tooling around a much decorated gilt title to the boards. All edges gilt. 20 engraved illustrations by Wehnert. Ink inscription to the second blank 'Miss M. Hogoboom Sharon'. There has been some near invisible expert restoration to the tooling on the upper board, overall a splendid copy.

London: Crosby, 1804. Full morocco, 7 1/4 inches tall. A very pretty Georgian straight grain morocco binding with gilt raised bands and delicate centre tools. The boards are framed within a lovely gilt roll and triple fillets. All edges gilt. Illustrated with fine engraved vignettes throughout. A neat ink inscription on the reverse of the free end paper and a previous owner's name on the title page. The half title has been torn out. Slightly grubby but still a charming volume.

A lovely little Regency binding with blind raised bands and unusual and very attractive gilt tooling to the panels and an elaborate series of gilt fillets and rolls framing the boards. Bookplate. Charming engraved frontispiece and bookplate. James Thomson, the 18th century poet now best known for writing the lyrics of 'Rule, Britannia!', was one of the most popular and influential poets of his century. A fine copy in excellent condition.
