London: Macmillan and Co., 1900. Full morocco, 7 1/2 inches tall. A very bright full straight grain morocco by Maclehose with gilt raised bands, gilt pallets, double fillets framing the boards, dentelles and all edges gilt. Portrait. A small mark on the lower board, otherwise a pristine copy of the works of Shelley, one of England's great Romantic Poets.

London: William Pickering, 1847. 2 volume set, 6 1/2 inches tall. A very fine Victorian full calf with gilt raised bands, twin labels and superb gilt tooling to the panels. Twin gilt fillets frame the boards. James Thomson, the 18th century poet now best known for writing the lyrics of 'Rule, Britannia!', was one of the most popular and influential poets of his century. A fine copy in excellent condition.

London: Florence Press, 1926. Full morocco, 8 inches tall. A finely printed edition in a simple full crushed morocco by Riviere with raised bands, gilt dentelles and top edge. Light Foxing. Spine slight faded. Edited and arranged by John Sampson. Though considered mad in his own lifetime, William Blake is now considered to be one of the greatest and most influential English poets and artist of the Romantic Age, perhaps of any age.

London: Constable and Company, 1909. Full morocco, 7 3/4 inches tall. A very neat binding by Zaehnsdorf with gilt raised bands, framed gilt panels and ornate gilt tooling to the boards within a series of gilt fillet panels. Gilt dentelles and top edge. Before establishing himself as a very successful novelist Meredith's first emphasis was as a romantic poet, Oscar Wilde described his poetry as "chaos illumined by brilliant flashes of lightning".

Edinburgh & London: William Blackwood and Sons, 1849. Full morocco, 9 1/2 inches tall. A rather magnificent tall heavy Victorian binding, not stinting on the gold leaf with raised bands and dense extra gilt panels. The boards have a complex series of highly ornate gilt and blind tooling. Gilt dentelles and all edges. Double column text. Foxing to the title page, otherwise clean. Hugely popular in her day now mostly remembered for two opening lines: "The boy stood on the burning deck" and "The stately homes of England".

London: Smith, Elder, & Co., 1896. 2 volume set, 7 1/2 inches tall. Full calf with gilt raised bands, extra gilt panels, triple labels, dentelles and all edges gilt. The boards are framed within gilt and blind fillets and corner tooling. The boards are marked and stained, but a very fine looking set on the shelf. Overall a very nice set of the poetical works of this very popular Victorian poet.

London: Moxon, 1872. Full morocco, 11 inches tall. A splendid large paper copy bound by George Rutland of Newcastle. With raised bands, titles, very delicate and ornate gilt panels, dentelles and all edges gilt. The boards have elegant panels framed with heavy gilt rolls. With 22 full page engravings of scenes by Birket Foster. Slight fading to the spine but overall a fine copy.

London: Longman et al, 1847. Full morocco, 8.5 inches tall. A most attractive binding by Hayday with raised bands and extra gilt tooling to the panels and boards. Gilt dentelles and all edges. Embellished with wood engravings throughout. A splendid copy of this great 18th century poem in a signed mid-Victorian binding.

London: Longman et al, 1830. 2 volume set, 6.5 inches tall. A good looking full calf binding of the period with gilt raised bands, twin labels and ornate blind tooling to the panels and boards. Portrait and vignettes to the text. A lovely red calf gilt bookplate referring perhaps to an educational establishment.

London: John Sharpe, 1809. Full morocco, 9 inches tall. A remarkable and most attractive Regency straight grain morocco with twin gilt raised bands, twin labels and very fine gilt tooling to the panels and boards. With gilt dentelles and gilt gauffered edges. Engraved title page and full page plates from designs by Richard Westall. Very lightly foxed facing the plates. Overall a fine copy.

London and New York: John Lane: 1901; 1902;1903;1903. 4 volume set, 7 inches tall. A handsome half morocco binding by W. Roach of New York with wide gilt raised bands, charming gilt tooling to the panels and gilt top edges.

Oxford: Clarendon Press, 1889. Half morocco, 8 1/2 inches tall. An elegant, simple binding by Bayntun with raised bands and gilt top edge. Slight superficial blotchiness to the upper board and ink inscription on the first blank. A limited edition of 585 copies, on handmade paper, of which this is 367, signed by Palgrave.

London: Cadell and Davies, 1801. Full morocco, 7 1/2 inches tall. A very pretty full Georgian straight grain morocco binding with gilt raised bands, gilt pallets, centre tools and gilt fillets and corner tooling to the boards. All edges gilt with delicate gauffering. A tiny, neat ink inscription on the first blank reads: 'From Mary Jane Moody to Charlotte Ann Eamer'. Embellished with charming engravings by Stothard.

London: Routledge, Warne & Routledge, 1860. Full calf, 9 inches tall. An unusual cream calf with raised gilt bands and extra gilt panels and boards. Gilt dentelles and edges. 100 fine engraved vignettes by John Gilbert, Birket Foster et al.. An interesting example of these heavy ornate Victorian bindings.

London: Longmans, Green & Co, 1873. Full calf, 9.5 inches tall. A most attractive full calf with gilt raised bands, very fine gilt tooled panels, blue label and the gilt stamp of Wellington College on the upper board. Armorial bookplate. Double column. Engraved portrait and title page.

London: Printed at the Stanhope Press, by Charles Whittingham for John Sharpe, 1805. Full calf, 5 1/4 inches tall. A beautiful little Georgian binding with gilt raised bands, twin labels and gilt and blind tooling to the panels and framing the boards. A finely printed pair of volumes, bound in one, embellished with three engraved plates, an engraved title page and frontispiece. From the library of Charles William Vane (formerly Stewart), third Marquess of Londonderry. Vane served with distinction throughout the Peninsula War. His dashing and dandified portrait by Sir Thomas Lawrence is at the National Portrait Gallery. He amassed magnificent libraries in his various Country Houses.

Portland, Maine: Thomas B. Mosher, 1907. Full morocco, 7 inches tall. A fine binding for Hatchards of Piccadilly with raised bands and neat and simple gilt tooling framing the panels and boards, blind 'strapping' around the bands and onto the boards. Gilt title on the upper board. Handmade paper with gilt top edge and other edges left untrimmed. The bookplate of Gwendolyn Field and neat ink inscription, dated 1918, on the first blank. The spine is faded though still bright. A good looking copy of this fine edition of Shakespeare's sonnets.

Glasgow: Robert Forrester, 1875. 2 volume set, 7 1/2 inches tall. A superb Victorian full calf with gilt raised bands, twin labels and finely gilt panels. Gilt and blind fillets and corner tools frame the boards. A neat ink inscription on the first blank. A collection of Scottish Verse, 'Wrote by the Ingenious before 1600'. Slightly marked boards but overall a fine copy of this anthology.

Edinburgh: Constable, Miller & Murray, 1808. Full diced calf, 8.5 inches tall. A superb Regency binding with gilt and blind bands and very fine blind, gilt and inked tooling to the panels. The diced boards are framed within blind and gilt rolls. There is a neat ink inscription dated 1810 on the reverse of the free endpaper. A splendid example of a binding of this period on a fourth edition of this celebrated poem.

Edinburgh: Black, 1865. Full morocco, 10 inches tall. A very fine heavy mid-Victorian morocco binding with gilt raised bands, extra gilt panels, ornate gilt tooling to the boards and all edges gilt. A double column edition, complete in 1 volume. Inscription.... 'on his leaving Eton Xmas 1865' on first blank. Some foxing to the preliminaries.
