London: Longmans, Green & Co, 1873. Full calf, 9.5 inches tall. A most attractive full calf with gilt raised bands, very fine gilt tooled panels, blue label and the gilt stamp of Wellington College on the upper board. Armorial bookplate. Double column. Engraved portrait and title page.

London: Printed at the Stanhope Press, by Charles Whittingham for John Sharpe, 1805. Full calf, 5 1/4 inches tall. A beautiful little Georgian binding with gilt raised bands, twin labels and gilt and blind tooling to the panels and framing the boards. A finely printed pair of volumes, bound in one, embellished with three engraved plates, an engraved title page and frontispiece. From the library of Charles William Vane (formerly Stewart), third Marquess of Londonderry. Vane served with distinction throughout the Peninsula War. His dashing and dandified portrait by Sir Thomas Lawrence is at the National Portrait Gallery. He amassed magnificent libraries in his various Country Houses.

London: Thomas Davison, 1828. 2 volume set, 5 1/2 inches tall. Splendid full calf with raised gilt bands. Label and extra gilt panels. A triple gilt fillet and blind roll frame the blind embossed Grecian Lyre block on the boards. An interesting wash to the edges. Engraved frontispieces. Attractive set of this tiny edition of one of Byron's best loved epic poems.

Portland, Maine: Thomas B. Mosher, 1907. Full morocco, 7 inches tall. A fine binding for Hatchards of Piccadilly with raised bands and neat and simple gilt tools framing the panels and boards, Blind 'strapping' around the bands and onto the boards. Gilt title on the upper board. Handmade paper with a gilt top edge and other edges left untrimmed. The bookplate of Gwendolyn Field and a neat ink inscription, dated 1918, on the first blank. The spine is faded though still bright. A lovely copy of this fine edition of Shakespeare's Sonnets.

London: Routledge, Warne & Routledge, 1860. Full calf, 9 inches tall. An unusual cream calf with raised gilt bands and extra gilt panels and boards. Gilt dentelles and edges. 100 fine engraved vignettes by John Gilbert, Birket Foster et al.. An interesting example of these heavy ornate Victorian bindings.

Edinburgh: Constable, Miller & Murray, 1808. Full diced calf, 8.5 inches tall. A superb Regency binding with gilt and blind bands and very fine blind, gilt and inked tooling to the panels. The diced boards are framed within blind and gilt rolls. There is a neat ink inscription dated 1810 on the reverse of the free endpaper. A splendid example of a binding of this period on a fourth edition of this celebrated poem.

London: Samson Low, 1859. Full Morocco, 8 inches tall. A remarkable Victorian embossed binding with raised bands, blind centre tools and pallets to the spine and complex blind embossed tooling around a much decorated gilt title to the boards. All edges gilt. 20 engraved illustrations by Wehnert. Ink inscription to the second blank 'Miss M. Hogoboom Sharon'. There has been some near invisible expert restoration to the tooling on the upper board, overall a splendid copy.

London: Thomas Kelly, 1819. 2 volume set, 8 1/2 inches tall. An unusually fine Regency full diced calf with gilt bands, blind and gilt tooling to the panels and diced boards within blind triple fillets and corner tools. Slightly faded. Well illustrated set of this once hugely popular and influential verse.

London: Longman, Hurst, Rees and Orme, 1809. Full diced calf, 8.5 inches tall. A superb Regency binding with gilt and blind bands and very fine blind, gilt and inked tooling to the panels. The diced boards are framed within blind and gilt rolls. There is a dark patch on the upper board and a neat ink inscription dated 1810 on the reverse of the free endpaper. A splendid example of a binding of this period on a tenth edition of this celebrated poem.

Paris: Calmann-Lévy, 1880. Full calf, 9 inches tall. A fine binding with gilt raised bands, elegant centre tools to the panels and and gilt oval centrepiece within gilt panels to the upper board. Some foxing and speckling to the boards. The first edition of this long philosophical poem.

London: Crosby, 1804. Full morocco, 7 1/4 inches tall. A very pretty Georgian straight grain morocco binding with gilt raised bands and delicate centre tools. The boards are framed within a lovely gilt roll and triple fillets. All edges gilt. Illustrated with fine engraved vignettes throughout. A neat ink inscription on the reverse of the free end paper and a previous owner's name on the title page. The half title has been torn out. Slightly grubby but still a charming volume.

apoli, Presso Agnello Nobile, 1819. 4 volume set, 7 inches tall. Full vellum with gilt bands and twin labels. Armorial bookplate. Engraved frontispieces. The tiny blue ticket of P. Rolandl, foreign bookseller of Berners St.. Some marking to the boards but overall a fine set. Including examples of the poetry of Dante, Petrach, Tasso up to Metastasio and De'Coletti, selected by the Englishman, Mathias.

London: 1889. Full morocco, 10 inches tall. A splendid full morocco by Bumpus with gilt raised bands, fine gilt tooling to the panels and double gilt fillets and corner tooling to the panels. Dentelles and all edges gilt. Slight fading to the spine. Decorated with 6 etchings by M. M. Taylor.

Edinburgh: Black, 1865. Full morocco, 10 inches tall. A very fine heavy mid-Victorian morocco binding with gilt raised bands, extra gilt panels, ornate gilt tooling to the boards and all edges gilt. A double column edition, complete in 1 volume. Inscription.... 'on his leaving Eton Xmas 1865' on first blank. Some foxing to the preliminaries.

London: Rivington, et al., 1816. Full calf, 5 1/4 inches tall. A lovely little Regency binding with blind raised bands and unusual and very attractive gilt tooling to the panels and an elaborate series of gilt fillets and rolls framing the boards. Bookplate. Charming engraved frontispiece and bookplate. James Thomson, the 18th century poet now best known for writing the lyrics of 'Rule, Britannia!', was one of the most popular and influential poets of his century. A fine copy in excellent condition.

London: Macmillan, 1894. Full tree calf by Morley of Oxford, 7 inches tall. A spectacularly attractive example of full tree calf prize binding. With gilt raised bands, triple labels, fine gilt floral tooling to the panels, a fine gilt roll framing the tree calf on the boards, dentelles and all edges gilt. With an armorial gilt prize block on the boards and prize label on the pastedown end paper. A charming anthology of Engllish verse in a pristine tree calf.

Paris: Hardouin, 1784. 2 volume set, 5 inches tall. A very simple yet good looking full calf with gilt bands, twin olive labels and tiny floral centre tools. All edges gilt. With the bookseller's ticket 'Vendu par DETREZ Libraire, place Sorbonne, No 4 a Paris'. The first volume consists of 'Poésies érotiques' and 'Voyage', the second volume of 'La journée champêtre', 'Le promontroire de Leucade', Les fleurs', and 'Mélange'. With exquisite engraved plates.

London: Sherwood, Neely, and Jones, 1809. Full calf, 5 inches tall. A delightful Regency full calf binding with gilt and inked bands, delicate gilt tooling to the panels and gilt and blind fillets framing the diced boards. Armorial bookplate of Sarah Phillott. Embellished with 8 charming engraved plates illustrative of young Gilbert's rural amatory adventures. This is a superb copy of this scarce work.
