This edition on handmade paper is limited to 200 copies with the inscription on the paste down endpaper admitting the Duke of Gloucester as a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons. With gilt bands and very ornate gilt centre tooling, typical of the period. Illustrated with superb engraved vignettes. With the bookplate of Stewart, Lord Londonderry. From the library of Charles William Vane (formerly Stewart), third Marquess of Londonderry. Vane served with distinction throughout the Peninsula War. His dashing and dandified portrait by Sir Thomas Lawrence is at the National Portrait Gallery. He amassed magnificent libraries in his various Country Houses.

With a smooth back and superb intricate gilt floral tooling and the title in a cartouche. All edges gilt. A fine copy of the poems of perhaps the greatest of England's romantic poets.

London: Lawrence & Bullen, 1891. 2 volume set, 7 inches tall. A splendid tree calf binding by Otto Shulze of Edinburgh with raised bands, fine gilt tooling to the panels and labels. A delicate gilt fillets frames the boards, wide dentelles and gilt top edge. Bookplate. This excellent large paper edition is printed on hand made paper and limited to just 200 copies. Edited by Alfred Pollard and with a preface by Algernon Swinburne, who considered Herrick to be "the greatest song writer ever born of English race". A lovely set of the most celebrated works of this great English 17th century poet.

London: Macmillan and Co., 1892. Full morocco, 6 1/4 inches tall. A very pretty binding by Bumpus with gilt raised bands and charming gilt tooling with hearts and leaves in the panels. Twin gilt fillets and the same tooling in the corners frame the boards. Gilt dentelles and all edges. There is a large bookplate on the free end paper and foxing on the half title, otherwise clean. A delightful copy of the selected verse of this great 17th century English lyric poet.

A very pleasing and remarkable Victorian full calf with raised bands and ornate gilt tooling and triple labels to the spine and calf onlays to the boards. Gilt dentelles and all edges. Portrait. From the Library of the Late Christopher Foyle of Beeleigh Abbey. The English Poet and novelist, Tupper, was one of the most read poets in the United Kingdom and North America for several decades, becoming a great favorite of Queen Victoria. After huge initial success 'Proverbial Philosophy', a volume of verse, he fell out of fashion and he never regained his great popularity. A superb Victorian binding in pristine condition.

London & Glasgow: Blackie and Son, 1840. 5 volume set, 6 1/2 inches tall. A very attractive little set in early Victorian full calf with gilt raised bands, twin labels and smart gilt tooled panels. Fine gilt and blind tooling decorate the boards. All edges gilt. Engraved frontispieces and title pages. Popular poet in his day much admired by his peers including Sir Walter Scott. He came from a humble background working as a shepherd, before achieving success as a poet in both English and Scottish.

A neat ink previous owner's inscription dated, 1891, on the first blank. All edges gilt. A splendid and comprehensive list of the English poets from Geoffery Chaucer to Dante Gabriel Rossetti in excellent condition.

London: Wilkie and Robinson et al, 1811. Full straight grain morocco, 7.25 inches tall. A superb binding from the Georgian period with very unusual twin gilt raised bands, titles, dense gilt tooling to the spine, dentelles and all edges. The straight grain boards are framed within fine gilt rolls. An early small neat ink owners inscription on the reverse of the free endpaper. Embellished with 4 engraved images by Cardon representing the seasons.

Paris: Ladvocat, Librairie, Palais Royal, 1824. 10 volume set bound in 5, 6.75 inches tall. A remarkable binding in marbled calf with gilt bands, titles and panels. With a previous owner's name, Mr. Oliver, on the upper boards.

Edinburgh: Printed by James Ballantyne for Longmans et al, 1809. 2 volume set, 6.5 inches tall. A very simple yet elegant Georgian full calf with gilt bands, delicate centre tools and titles. A lovely example of this very rare item of which only a few copies are recorded in institutions. With the armorial bookplate of Sir William Forbes of Pitsligo.

London: Macmillan and Co., 1896. Full calf, 7 1/2 inches tall. An extraordinary stained calf with gilt raised bands, label and fine gilt tooling to the panels, gilt dentelles and all edges and twin gilt fillet and corner tools framing the boards. The calf itself has been stain to a cloudy marbled effect which is most attractive and unusual. Matthew Arnold's Poems in pristine condition.

London: Oxford University Press, 1912. Full morocco, 7 1/2 inches tall. An elegant, most good looking binding signed by Morrell and by Truslove and Hanson of Sloane Street who were luxury book sellers, book binders and acted as London agents for the State Library of New South Wales. Bound in full crushed morocco with gilt raised bands and very fine and delicate gilt tooling to the panels and boards with tiny green calf onlays. Gilt dentelles and all edges. Portrait. One blank has been neatly removed. Gordon was the first Australian poet to achieve considerable recognition overseas, though his tragically short life ended before he was able to enjoy this.

London: Strahan & Co., 1872. Full morocco, 6 3/4 inches tall. First edition. A beautiful little binding with gilt raised bands, contrasting label and delicate floral gilt tooling to the panels. The boards are very finely tooled creating an elaborate gilt panel with red calf onlays. Gilt dentelles and all edges. Foxing to the reverse of the free endpapers and first blank then perfectly clean. This volume contains 2 of Tennyson's great Idylls ,'Gareth and Lynette,' follows the coming of Arthur, and the other title in this volume, 'The Last Tournament', immediately precedes 'Guinevere'. A delightful volume.

Edinburgh: Constable and London: Vernor & Hood, 1801. 2 volume set bound as 1, 7 1/2 inches tall. A later Victorian beautiful full crushed morocco binding by the great firm of Ramage with gilt raised bands and ornate gilt tooling to the panels. Gilt fillets frame the boards. Gilt dentelles and all edges. Bound with the glossary, errata and advertisements. Sir John Graham Dalyell was a Scottish advocate, antiquary and naturalist who studied 700 manuscripts in the preparation of this work.

London: Shakspeare Printing Office, 1804. Full morocco, 9 inches tall. A superb later crushed morocco by the great firm of Bedford. With gilt raised bands and very fine gilt tooling to the panels. Gilt dentelles and all edges. Slight rubbing. With delightful full page engravings and engraved vignettes by Bewick. With lives of Goldsmith and Parnell, Parnell's greatest poem, 'The Hermit' and Goldsmith's 'The Traveller' and 'The Deserted Village'.

Oxford: The Clarendon Press, 1926. Full calf, 7 inches tall. A superb full calf binding by Riviere with gilt raised bands, twin labels, ornate floral gilt tooling to the panels dentelles and all edges gilt. The finely decorated boards combine gilt tooling on a ground of speckled and plain calf. A splendid anthology in a beautiful binding.

Edinburgh: James Nichol, 1853. Full morocco, 8.5 inches tall. A splendidly bound volume with gilt raised bands, very fine gilt tooling to the panels and exceptionally ornate gilt tooling framing the boards. Gilt dentelles and all edges.
