London: John Churchill and W. Flexney, 1766. 2 volume set, 9 inches tall. A simple yet elegant binding with gilt bands and titles. Armorial bookplate. A neat owner's name dated 1821 on the title page and the publisher and executor, John Churchill, has signed his name at the end of the work. A fine edition of the works of this celebrated satirist and poet.

Edinburgh: Printed by James Ballantyne for Longmans et al, 1809. 2 volume set, 6.5 inches tall. A very simple yet elegant Georgian full calf with gilt bands, delicate centre tools and titles. A lovely example of this very rare item of which only a few copies are recorded in institutions. With the armorial bookplate of Sir William Forbes of Pitsligo.

London: Macmillan and Co., 1896. Full calf, 7 1/2 inches tall. An extraordinary stained calf with gilt raised bands, label and fine gilt tooling to the panels, gilt dentelles and all edges and twin gilt fillet and corner tools framing the boards. The calf itself has been stain to a cloudy marbled effect which is most attractive and unusual. Matthew Arnold's Poems in pristine condition.

London: Oxford University Press, 1912. Full morocco, 7 1/2 inches tall. An elegant, most good looking binding signed by Morrell and by Truslove and Hanson of Sloane Street who were luxury book sellers, book binders and acted as London agents for the State Library of New South Wales. Bound in full crushed morocco with gilt raised bands and very fine and delicate gilt tooling to the panels and boards with tiny green calf onlays. Gilt dentelles and all edges. Portrait. One blank has been neatly removed. Gordon was the first Australian poet to achieve considerable recognition overseas, though his tragically short life ended before he was able to enjoy this.

Edinburgh: James Nichol, 1853. Full morocco, 8.5 inches tall. A splendidly bound volume with gilt raised bands, very fine gilt tooling to the panels and exceptionally ornate gilt tooling framing the boards. Gilt dentelles and all edges. From the library of Dalton Hall and from the Hayhurst collection. Bookplate. A well printed and handsomely bound copy of one of the most influential 18th century English poems.

Gilt dentelles and all edges. Parallel Latin text and English translation. A superbly bound copy of this scarce title.

London: John Walker, 1794. 4 volume set, 8.5 inches tall. A most attractive Georgian full tree calf with gilt raised bands, twin labels and delightful gilt tooling to the panels. The tree calf is framed with a gilt Greek roll. Yellow edges. Loss to one headcap, some rubbing and occasional superficial loss of leather to a long defunct insect, but still a fine looking set of the poetical works of this great satirist.

London: Routledge, Warne, & Routledge, 1861. Full morocco, 9 inches tall. A remarkable heavy mid-Victorian full crushed morocco by David Bryce of Glasgow with twin raised bands, fine gilt panels and stunning gilt tooling to the boards with a panel in relief. Gilt dentelles and superb gauffered gilt edges. With an neat small inscription dated 1864 to 'Georgie Waddell from her cousin C.M. Fenton Livingstone'. Illustrated with over 100 designs by John Gilbert, engraved by the brothers Dalziel. Some rubbing but in fine condition.

London: R. Ackermann, 1813. Half morocco, 12 inches tall. A tall, elegant half morocco by Hatchards with raised bands and gilt framed panels. Gilt top edge. Finely printed on hand-made paper with delightful engraved vignettes throughout. Slightly rubbed and scuffed.

Paris: Baudry, 1827. 3 volume set, 4 1/2 inches tall. A delightful little set in a splendid French full plum straight grain morocco with wide blind tooled raised bands, gilt pallets and centre tools. An elaborate blind embossed device is framed within blind and gilt fillets on the boards. Gilt dentelles and all edges. With a neat ticket of a Bordeaux book seller. A very neat ink previous owner's name, dated 1828, on the reverse of the free end paper. Portrait. Light foxing. A fine French edition, in English, in superb condition.

London: Longman, 1846. Full crushed morocco, 10.5 inches tall. Splendid heavy Victorian binding with raised bands, extra floral gilt panels and boards, titles, dentelles and all edges. Illustrated throughout by Maclise with beautiful illustrations all within decorative borders. Some foxing throughout and light scuffing, a patch of leather on the lower board has been squidged with no loss.

London: Longmans et. al., 1816. Full straight grain morocco, 8.75 inches tall. A delightful volume in a fine regency binding. With wide gilt raised bands, titles, floral tooling to the panels, dentelles and all edges. The straight grain boards are framed within gilt and blind tooled rolls.

London: Saunders & Otley, 1836. Full morocco, 9 inches tall. An exceptionally finely tooled volume by Wright 'a binder of the highest order' (Ramsden, London Book Binders). With gilt raised bands, dense gilt tooling to the panels and extraordinary elaborate tooling to the boards. Slightly sunned spine and some foxing, severe on a few pages. An anthology of British poetry illustrated by the artists of the period.

London: MacMillan, 1900 & 1908. 2 volumes, 6 inches tall. A beautiful and pristine set in a full calf by Zaehnsdorf with gilt raised bands, twin labels, fine gilt panels, dentelles and all edges. A delightful set of this classic anthology of English poems and songs.

London: James Wallace 1805. Full morocco, 6 1/2 inches tall. A remarkable Georgian binding with gilt raised bands, twin labels and superb delicate gilt tooling to the panels. The boards have exceptional gilt fan tooling to the corners framed within gilt and blind fillets and a black inked roll. The striking watered silk doublures and free endpaper are framed within wide gilt rolls. All edges gilt. A new edition ornamented with 10 engravings by Bewick. A neat ink inscription on the title page 'Isabella Tod. 1812'. This delightful volume is rubbed but still a choice volume.

Edinburgh & London: Blackwood, 1865. Full morocco, 9 1/2 tall. A Stunning full hard grain morocco binding by James Henderson & William Bisset & Co., Edinburgh, Bookbinders to Her Majesty Queen Victoria. With raised bands, exceptionally fine gilt tooling to the panels and boards, dentelles and all edges gilt. Engraved frontispiece and title page. Double column. There is a slightly smudged ink inscription on the first blank. A very handsome mi-Victorian binding of the highest quality.

London: Arthur L. Humphreys, 1906. 2 volume set, 9 1/4 inches tall. A most elegant Edwardian half morocco by Bayntun Riviere with gilt raised bands and simple gilt framed panels. Gilt top edges the remaining edges untrimmed. Slight foxing. A fine copy of one of Humphreys' fine printings on hand made paper.

London: Routledge, 1859. Full morocco, 9 inches tall. A splendid heavy Victorian hard grain morocco binding with gilt raised bands and elaborate gilding to the panels. With Illustrations by Birket Foster and H.N. Humphreys. The remarkable boards have a series of gilt fillets and rolls framing a gilt block illustrating a family group gesturing, in sorrow, towards a village church whence they have just left. Gilt dentelles and all edges. There is a stain on the border of the end papers and some foxing, but still a beautifully illustrated and bound volume.
