Oxford: John Henry Parker, 1850. 2 volume set bound in 3, 9 inches tall. A magnificent Victorian full hard grain morocco with gilt raised bands, extra gilt panels and boards, Gilt dentelles and all edges gauffered. Embellished with 1700 woodcuts, some in colour. Parker 'was of considerable importance to Ecclesiology, the Gothic Revival, and the huge national upsurge of nineteenth century Anglicanism.....his Glossary.....must stand as one of the earliest (and most scholarly) influential texts of the whole ecclesiological movement' (James Curl: Oxford Dictionary of Architecture).

With the magnificent armorial bookplate of Vane Londonderry. An early advocate of women's rights having escaped an unhappy marriage and hostile husband. Early copies of her works are very rare even in institutions. A superb set.

London: G. Bell, 1926. Full morocco, 6.5 inches tall. A neat little volume of these great tales by one of the greatest Russian writers, translated into English by T. Keane. A fine binding by Morrell with gilt raised bands, splendid tooling to the panels and framing the boards. A slight stain to the foot of the upper board not effecting the shape or interior. Gilt dentelles and top edge.

London: Printed by the Queen's printers for Peacock, Mansfield, and Britton, c.1870. Full morocco, 5 inches tall. A superb little edition with exceptionally bold clasps with raised bands, gilt title and all edges. The clasps are in full working order. A neat ink inscription, dated 1879, on the first blank.

London: MacMillan, 1900 & 1908. 2 volumes, 6 inches tall. A beautiful and pristine set in a full calf by Zaehnsdorf with gilt raised bands, twin labels, fine gilt panels, dentelles and all edges. A delightful set of this classic anthology of English poems and songs.

Paris: Chez Apollon, au Mont-Parnasse, 1782. Full morocco, 5.5 inches tall. A superb binding by Zaehnsdorf, one of the greatest London bookbinders. with gilt raised bands and splendid rococo gilt tooling to the panels and boards. Dentelles and all edges gilt. An engraved frontispiece and 17 further full page engravings. A charming 18th century anthology of French tales and poems.

Paris: Joseph Barbou, 1754. Full calf, 6.25 inches tall. A superb early nineteenth century binding possibly by White, with gilt raised bands, delightful dense pomegranate gilt tooling to the panels, double gilt fillet framing the boards, dentelles and all edges gilt. From the Sotheby sale of 29th April 1852. Engraved frontispiece. Phaedrus was a 1st century A.D. Roman fabulist, now known to be the first writer to compile entire books of fables, retelling the tales of Aesop. A wonderful copy in the original Latin.

Amsterdam: Johannis van Someren, 1670. 3 volume set, 7.75 inches tall. A wonderful set in a full crushed morocco, unsigned but possibly by Clarke at the beginning of the 19th century. With raised bands, twin labels and superb gilt floral tooling to the panels. Gilt dentelles and all edges. Armorial bookplate. Fine engraved title pages to the first 2 volumes. In the original Greek. Slightly faded spines but still a splendid set which describes the rise of the Roman Republic to the status of dominance in the ancient Mediterranean world. Famously it includes Polybius's eyewitness account of the Sack of Carthage and Corinth in 146 BC and the Roman annexation of the mainland Greece after the Achaean War.

London: John Walker, 1794. 4 volume set, 8.5 inches tall. A most attractive Georgian full tree calf with gilt raised bands, twin labels and delightful gilt tooling to the panels. The tree calf is framed with a gilt Greek roll. Yellow edges. Loss to one headcap, some rubbing and occasional superficial loss of leather to a long defunct insect, but still a fine looking set of the poetical works of this great satirist.

Paris: Hardouin, 1784. 2 volume set, 5 inches tall. A very simple yet good looking full calf with gilt bands, twin olive labels and tiny floral centre tools. All edges gilt. With the bookseller's ticket 'Vendu par DETREZ Libraire, place Sorbonne, No 4 a Paris'. The first volume consists of 'Poésies érotiques' and 'Voyage', the second volume of 'La journée champêtre', 'Le promontroire de Leucade', Les fleurs', and 'Mélange'. With exquisite engraved plates.

Tours: Maison Alfred Mame et fils, c.1900. 4 volume set, 5 inches tall. A delightful little set in full crushed morocco with gilt bands, gilt tooling to the panels, twin labels, charming gilt rolls and swags framing the boards. Watered silk endpapers and all edges gilt. With no inscriptions, a pristine set of these devotional works with their original box.

Neat ink inscription and Bala College ink stamp on the first blank. A fine copy of this scarce work on the first century theologian Saint Ignatius of Antioch. In Latin.

Paris: Gruel: Engelmann, 1858. Full morocco, 6.5 inches tall. A very simple binding with raised bands and all edges gilt. Vellum endpapers not pasted down. Each page is finely decorated with elaborate borders.

London: Darton and Clark, 1844. Half morocco, 6 inches tall. Charming little Annual, 'A Christmas and New Year's Present' for young people handsomely bound in a fine half morocco. Lithographic title page and frontispiece and vignettes throughout.
