London: T. Edgerton, Military Library, Whitehall, 1815. Full morocco, 9 1/2 inches tall. A wonderful copy of a scarce book in full Regency straight grain morocco with gilt raised bands, gilt pallets, the board framed with a wide blind roll and a double gilt fillet. All edges gilt. Embellished with 27 folding hand coloured engraved plans illustrating the cavalry manouevers. This copy is inscribed ' from the author' and was from the library of Lord Londonderry, though without his bookplate.

This set of one of the great works on the English Civil War is in a sparkling binding in exceptionally fine condition.

Paris: J.J. Dubochet, 1844. Full calf, 10 1/2 inches tall. A stunning full 'cat's paw' calf by Clarke & Bedford, one of the greatest firms of London binders of the late 19th century. With gilt raised bands, very fine floral gilt tooling to the panels and gilt corner tools and triple fillet framing the boards. Gilt dentelles and all edges. Embellished with 50 hand coloured plates representing the military uniforms of the 'République et de l'Empire'. A wonderful copy with the armorial bookplate of Edward Nicholas Hurt.

London: Colburn, 1823; Colburn 1824; Phillips, 1820. 8 volume set, 9 inches tall. A superb half plum crushed morocco by Riviere with wide gilt raised bands and 'Napoleonic centre tools' within gilt corner tools and pallets in the panels. Gilt top edges, the rest untrimmed. There are some scuffs, nicks and abrasions on a few boards but the spines are unblemished. With the errata slip on page xii. Illustrated with folding plans, map and 'similes' of manuscript pages. We could find no other sets extended to 8 volumes by the inclusion of O'Meara's concluding work.

Binder to the King, Simier's "variety and and technique were superb; he had no superior and few rivals during his career" ( Ramsden's French Bookbinders 1789-1848 ).

A very entertaining and extremely scarce work consisting of military adventures of the period and recent past. From the Library and with the bookplate of Robert J. Hayhurst. There are just 2 examples in Copac and both seem to be incomplete. Profusely illustrated with vignettes and full page engraved portraits and plans.

'A handy book of reference of the deeds that have won the Victoria Cross from the date of its institution in 1856 up to the present time' (revised up to 1921), 'arranged in order of regiment or corps. The account of each act of bravery is an extract from the 'London Gazette' of the time'.
