London: Henry S. King, 1877. 2 volume set, 8 1/2 inches tall. A smart Victorian half calf binding with gilt raised bands, twin labels and very fine gilt tooling to the panels. Neat ink inscription on the first blank. Foxing to the preliminaries then clean. Portrait.

Paris: Librairie L. Conquet, 1891. Full Morocco, 9 inches tall. A beautiful full crushed morocco for Hatchards with raised bands and remarkable floral gilt tooling to the panels and boards. Wide gilt dentelles, watered silk doublures and all edges gilt. Armorial bookplate. There is some rubbing, a very faint mark on the upper board and some cockling on the reverse of the free watered silk endpapers. One of 400 copies (out of a total of 600) on 'papier vélin de Marais'. With a portrait by Delort and engravings by Boisson. In the original French. Madame de Staal's remarkable Memoirs, including two years incarcerated in the Bastille, have not been out of print since first being published.

Paris: L. Carteret, 1910. 2 volume set, 8 1/2 inches tall. A superb full morocco binding by Bickers with gilt raised bands and very smart gilt pallets framing the panels and boards. Gilt dentelles and top edges. Original wraps bound in. With the bookplate of Alfred de Curzon, 19th century French painter. Slight foxing to the preliminaries. Madame Campan was in the service of Marie-Anoinette before and during the horrors of the French Revolution. This set is number 204 exemplaires sur papier velin du Marais. There are 63 very fine engravings by Leon Boisson from illustrations by LALAUZE. In the original French.

London: Becket, Cadell and Evans, 1774. 4 volume set, 7 1/2 inches tall. A good looking 18th century full calf with gilt raised bands, twin labels and elaborate gilt tooling to the panels. A single gilt fillet frames the boards, With bookplate of Ellen James. Some rubbing and cracks to the joints but overall a perfectly firm and solid set of this English language edition.

Paris: Lerouge & Petit, 1806. 4 volume set, 6 1/2 inches tall. An exceptionally pretty half morocco set from the beginning of the 19th century with gilt bands, finely tooled panels and label. Portrait. A most attractive set, in the original French. From the library of Charles William Vane (formerly Stewart), third Marquess of Londonderry. Vane served with distinction throughout the Peninsula War. His dashing and dandified portrait by Sir Thomas Lawrence is at the National Portrait Gallery. He amassed magnificent libraries in his various Country Houses.

London: Richard Bentley, 1836. 3 volume set, 8 3/4 inches tall. A striking set in half green early Victorian calf with gilt bands and contrasting red labels. Red speckled edges. The splendid armorial bookplate of Lord Londonderry. A fascinating memoir decorated with 6 full page engraved portraits.

York: Payne, Mawman and Wilson, 1808. Half Calf 11 inches tall. A handsome binding with wide gilt raised bands and pink speckled edges. Fine Portrait. Some foxing to the preliminaries. From the library of Charles William Vane (formerly Stewart), third Marquess of Londonderry. Vane served with distinction throughout the Peninsula War. His dashing and dandified portrait by Sir Thomas Lawrence is at the National Portrait Gallery. He amassed magnificent libraries in his various Country Houses.

London: Longman et al, 1822. 2 volume set, 8.5 inches tall. A splendid Georgian full diced calf with gilt raised bands, twin labels and ornate floral gilt tooling to the panels. Armorial bookplate and early ink inscription at head of the title page. Foxing to, and offsetting from the 2 engraved frontispieces. Lord Macaulay was a great admirer of Lucy Aikin and singled out this title for especial praise.

London: Chatto and Windus, 1876. Crushed olive morocco, 8.5 inches tall. A superb binding by Sotheran with gilt raised bands, titles, dentelles, all edges and dense extra gilt tooling to the panels and boards. An edition edited and with notes by Sir Walter Scott. Illustrated with 64 full page engravings. Some foxing, in particular to the prelims. A stunning copy.

London: (Leonard Smithers) Privately Printed, 1896-1897. 4 Volume set, 7.5 inches tall. Superbly bound by Nichols in full calf with gilt raised bands, twin labels and dense gilt tooling to the panels. Top edge gilt, the other edges untrimmed. 'This edition is strictly limited to 1000 numbered copies, 500 of which are for America'. This copy unnumbered. A fascinating work by the team of Leonard Smithers and Harry Sidney Nichols, celebrated printers and publishers of erotic and pornographic volumes.

London: Nimmo, 1885. 2 volume set, 9.25 inches tall. Full crushed morocco by Ramage, one of the great binders of the period. A smart, though simple, binding with gilt raised bands, gilt framed panels and boards. Gilt top edges and dentelles. Slightly rubbed. Armorial bookplates. With 64 portraits, engraved by Edward Scriven.

Paris: J. Techener, 1860. Full morocco, 8 inches tall. A splendid full morocoo binding by Bedford, one of London's finest binders of the period, with gilt raised bands, very fine floral gilt tooling to the panels. dentelles and top edge. With the armorial bookplate of Ernest William Greg.

London: Arthur L. Humphreys, 1906. Half morocco, 8.5 inches tall. A fine binding by Sawyer with gilt raised bands, fine gilt tooled panels, title and top edge. From the 'The Royal Library Historical Series'. This is a very elegant example of one of Humphreys' finely printed works on handmade paper in absolutely pristine condition.

Bruxelles: Cautaerts, 1827. 2 volume set, 6 inches tall. Half calf with wide raised bands, twin labels and attractive gilt tooled panels. In excellent condition with an armorial bookplate. A fascinating work, rarely found.
