With the armorial bookplate of Farnham of Quorn of Quorn Hall. Embellished with portraits and views. Some light rubbing, otherwise a fine set of this celebrated Life of H.R.H. Prince Albert, Consort to Queen Victoria.

London: Longman, Hurst, Rees and Orme, 1807. Half morocco, 11 inches tall. A superb copy in Georgian half morocco. With gilt bands and very ornate gilt centre tooling, typical of the period. With 4 engraved portraits. With the bookplate of Stewart, Lord Londonderry. From the library of Charles William Vane (formerly Stewart), third Marquess of Londonderry. Vane served with distinction throughout the Peninsula War. His dashing and dandified portrait by Sir Thomas Lawrence is at the National Portrait Gallery. He amassed magnificent libraries in his various Country Houses.

London: Longman et al., 1835; 1837; 1840 & 1845. 4 volume set, 6 1/2 inches tall. Exquisite little set with gilt raised bands, extra gilt panels and triple labels. The tree calf boards are framed within an ornate floral gilt roll. Each title page has an engraved vignette. The title label of volume 4, which appeared 5 years after the third volume, is of a different colour. From the library of Edward Nicholas Hurt, most of whose books were of this highest quality.

London: Arthur L. Humphreys, 1901. Full Morocco, 9 inches tall. A splendid full terracotta crushed morocco by Hatchards with raised bands and classic gilt framed panels and boards with triple dot corner tools and triple inked Aldine leaf clusters terminating the bands. Gilt dentelles and all edges. A superb copy of one of Humphrey's fine printings on handmade paper.

Paris: Lerouge & Petit, 1806. 4 volume set, 6 1/2 inches tall. An exceptionally pretty half morocco set from the beginning of the 19th century with gilt bands, finely tooled panels and label. London: Dent, 1906. Full vellum, 7.5 inches tall. A delightful copy of this scarcer title from the 'The series of English Idylls' collection. With 24 colour plates by C. E. Brock. An unusually nice 'unbowed' example

Maestricht: Dufour & Philippe, 1778. 9 volume set, 7 inches tall. Full 18th century cat's paw calf with gilt bands, twin labels and a delightful gilt floral centre tool to the panels. Pink edges. Unusual green speckled endpapers. Bookplate. There are 2 small but nasty dents to the spines of volumes III and VIII, otherwise a very neat and clean set of this scarce collection. In the original French.

London: Longmans, Green, and Co.,1896. 8 volumes, 8.75 inches tall. This run contains the Complete Works of Macaulay but it lacks the final 2 volumes (of 10) which contained the Life of Macaulay. A very handsome late Victorian full calf by Deighton Bell with gilt raised bands, twin labels, extra gilt panels and a double fillet and corner tools framing the boards. There is a prize gilt block on the boards and a prize bookplate (for Trinity College, Cambridge) in the first volume.

The Leadenhall Press Limited, 1897. Full morocco, 11 inches tall. A fabulous full morocco by Zaehnsdorf with gilt raised bands, and very fine gilt tooling to the panels and boards. Finely gilt tooled dentelles and all edges. Silk endpapers. Though the binding is still firm there are cracks running the length of the spine on both boards. Limited to 1050 copies of which this is number 362.

London: William Miller, 1804. Full morocco, 14.5 inches tall. A magnificent Georgian full straight grain morocco with gilt raised bands, extra gilt panels, dentelles and all edges. The ornately gilt tooled centre tooling is framed within a series of blind and gilt tooled rolls and fillets. This is the tall folio edition and is adorned with 50 hand coloured aquatints. From the library of the Duke of Gloucester at Kensington Palace. Prince Henry Duke of Gloucester was the third son of King George V, brother of King George VI and King Edward VIII.

London: Macmillan, 1867. Full crushed morocco, 6 inches tall. An elegant binding by Holloway with gilt raised bands, delicate gilt centre tools to the panels, dentelles and all edges. Two bookplates. An anthology of French poetry with the verse in the original French and the preface and notes in English. A delightful volume.

London: John Murray, 1830. Full morocco, 6 inches tall. A charming little binding with gilt raised bands, blind pallets to the panels and a single fillet and wide blind roll framing the boards. Gilt dentelles and all edges. 4 engraved portraits.
With bookseller's label 'Sold by Wallason Bookseller &c 31 New Bond Street', and bookplate of Charles Anderson-Pelham (1781-1846), 1st Earl of Yarborough, of Appuldurcombe House, Isle of Wight.

A splendid set of the second edition of the dramatic works of this great seventeenth century English playwright.

New York & London: M. Walter Dunne, 1903. 17 volume set bound in 34, 8 inches tall. A delightful half crushed morocco with gilt raised bands, floral gilt tooling in the 'Art Nouveau' style. Illustrated throughout. Very slight staining to a few leaves, otherwise pristine. A splendid set of the works of this great French writer of the 19th century, considered one of the greatest short story writers. Translated into English.

Edinburgh: David Douglas, 1884. 2 volume set, 11 inches tall. An elegant full crushed morocco by Zaehnsdorf with gilt raised bands and the panels and boards framed with gilt pallets and rolls. Wide gilt dentelles and gilt top edges. Armorial bookplates. 11 Japan mounted proofs and hundreds of woodcut illustrations throughout.

London: George Bell, 1898. Half morocco, 7.75 inches tall. A simple yet pleasing binding by MacMillan & Bowes with raised bands and gilt title and all edges. A scarce edition profusely illustrated throughout by A. Garth Jones.

London: Longmans et al, 1873. 2 volume set, 7.5 inches tall. A most attractive classic Victorian by Riviere in full calf with gilt raised bands, fine floral tooling to the panels and twin labels. Gilt prize inscription on upper board of volume 1.

London: Routledge, Warne & Routledge, 1860. Full calf, 9 inches tall. An unusual cream calf with raised gilt bands and extra gilt panels and boards. Gilt dentelles and edges. 100 fine engraved vignettes by John Gilbert, Birket Foster et al.. An interesting example of these heavy ornate Victorian bindings.

London: Charles Noble, 1867. Full morocco, 4 inches tall. An exceptional Victorian binding with gilt raised bands, very fine floral gilt tooled panels and dentelles. The print is tiny and there is some offsetting making it doubly unreadable but housed in a delightful little binding.
