London: J. F. Dove, c.1835. 4 volumes bound in 1, 5 inches tall. A delightful early Victorian half calf binding with red label and dense gilt tooling to the smooth back. 2 engraved frontispieces and title pages, each covering 2 volumes.

Edinburgh: Archibald Constable, 1819. Half calf, 8 1/2 inches tall. A splendid Regency binding on half 'Russia' calf, with gilt raised bands, blind pallets and ornate, dense extra gilt panels. Particularly interesting marbled paper on the boards. From the library of Alfred de Rothschild but without the bookplate. Some foxing on the engraved frontispiece, otherwise clean. A tear on one leaf, not affecting the text. Romanticized by Sir Walter Scott and John Buchan, 'The Great Montrose', Seventeenth century Scottish nobleman, poet and soldier, fought for Charles I in the Civil War.

London: Charles Tilt, 1837. 2 vols., 12mo (4.25 x 2.75 inches). Full mauve morocco, with decorative gilt tooling framing title on spine. Double blind rule framing gilt scrolling foliage centre tool to both boards. All edges gilt. Unusual oxidised book plate 'Sarah'. Engraved frontispiece plates.

London: Dent, 1906. Full vellum, 7.5 inches tall. A delightful copy of this scarcer title from the 'The series of English Idylls' collection. With 24 colour plates by C. E. Brock. An unusually nice 'unbowed' example

London: Strahan and Cadell, 1789. 2 volume set, 9 inches tall. Straight grain morocco with gilt raised bands, titles and delicate gilt and blind tooling to the panels. A particularly nice copy of this scarce work in a late 18th century binding.

London: Richardson; Rivington et al, 1811. Half straight grain morocco, 5.25 inches tall. An elegant little Regency binding with blind bands and Grecian lyre centre tools within gilt framed panels. Engraved frontispiece and title page. Occasional foxing. With the armorial bookplate of the 7th Earl of Buckinghamshire.

London: Charles Noble, 1867. Full morocco, 4 inches tall. An exceptional Victorian binding with gilt raised bands, very fine floral gilt tooled panels and dentelles. The print is tiny and there is some offsetting making it doubly unreadable but housed in a delightful little binding.
