London: Longmans, Green, and Co.,1896. 8 volumes, 8.75 inches tall. This run contains the Complete Works of Macaulay but it lacks the final 2 volumes (of 10) which contained the Life of Macaulay. A very handsome late Victorian full calf by Deighton Bell with gilt raised bands, twin labels, extra gilt panels and a double fillet and corner tools framing the boards. There is a prize gilt block on the boards and a prize bookplate (for Trinity College, Cambridge) in the first volume.

With gilt raised bands, triple labels and delicate gilt tooling to the panels. Gilt top edges. Profusely illustrated with maps, battle plans, and photogravures. A late edition of this classic biography in a fine binding.

Edinburgh: James Nichol, 1853. 2 volume set, 8 1/2 inches tall. A wonderful early Victorian full straight grain morocco by J. Wright with gilt raised bands and absolutely superb gilt tooling to the panels and boards. Gilt dentelles and all edges. A fine set of the poetical works of John Milton the great 17th century poet who in 'Paradise Lost' wrote perhaps the greatest of all English epic poems.

Twin gilt fillets and corner tools frame the boards. A neat ink inscription dated 1859 is to be found on the first blank. London: Rivington et al, 1817. Full straight grain morocco, 8.25 inches tall. An usual and superb biding from the Georgian period. With 3 very finely decorated raised bands, 1 inch square, titles, dentelles and all edges. The straight grain boards are framed within gilt and blind tooled rolls. Contains the "Life of The Author" and "Criticism On The Poem" by Samuel Johnson. Engraved portrait and title page. Neat early owners inscription on first blank.

London: Chatto & Windus, 1902. 2 volume set, 8 1/2 inches tall. A superb Edwardian full calf with gilt raised bands, smart twin labels and intricate gilt floral tooling to the panels. Gilt corner tools and gilt and blind fillets frame the boards. From the library of Evelyn de Rothschild and with his bookplate.

With 4 engraved portraits. With the bookplate of Stewart, Lord Londonderry. From the library of Charles William Vane (formerly Stewart), third Marquess of Londonderry. Vane served with distinction throughout the Peninsula War. His dashing and dandified portrait by Sir Thomas Lawrence is at the National Portrait Gallery. He amassed magnificent libraries in his various Country Houses.

London: Smith, Elder & Co., 1880. 5 volume set, 8 3/4 inches tall. A smart half morocco binding with gilt raised bands and ornate floral gilt tooling to the panels. Gilt top edges. With the armorial bookplate of Farnham of Quorn of Quorn Hall. Embellished with portraits and views. Some light rubbing, otherwise a fine set of this celebrated Life of H.R.H. Prince Albert, Consort to Queen Victoria.

London: H.Moses, 1817. Full calf, 11 inches tall. With raised bands, labels, decorated gilt spine and boards, dentelles and top edge. Bound by Burgess of Ramsgate in 1940 (at the cost of one pound five shillings). With 24 superb engravings by Henry Moses and one folding plan of Ramsgate Harbour. There is a degree of foxing, some fraying to a couple of title pages with no loss and a small professional repair to the plan of Ramsgate Harbour, again with no loss. An unusually tall and handsome copy of this difficult title.

London: John Murray, 1903. 4 volume set, 8.75 inches tall. A splendid Edwardian full calf by Morrell with gilt raised bands, twin labels and fine floral gilt tooling to the panels. Slight fading to the spines and some foxing facing the plates. Here the original 2 volumes have been extended to 4 with the original 20 plates and an additional 91 plates.

Embossed gilt 'Rugby School' on the upper boards and a neat ink presentation inscription on the first blank. With 2 rather large hand coloured maps. A splendid example of the second, revised edition.

Glasgow: Robert & Andrew Foulis, 1771-1772. 4 volume set, 5 inches tall. A Charming set in 18th century calf, in excellent condition with raised bands, gilt fillets and fine labels. Pink speckled edges. A slight nick to the head cap of the first volume and scuffs to a couple raised bands, overall a fine set. The first 2 volumes contain Paradise Lost, the remaining titles are found in the second 2 volumes.

London : Henry Colburn, 1826. Half Calf, 7 1/2 inches tall. A very scarce work in a splendid half pink calf from the library of Lord Londonderry, but without his bookplate. Speckled pink edges. With gilt bands and a striking blind centre tool. Translated from the German, this is a terrific tale of adventure and travels of a young soldier just after the French Revolution. Other than a nasty scuff to the centre of the lower board, in lovely condition.

Unusual green speckled endpapers. Bookplate. There are 2 small but nasty dents to the spines of volumes III and VIII, otherwise a very neat and clean set of this scarce collection.
