Lord Londonderry

London: John Murray, 1814. Full morocco, 8 3/4 inches tall. A remarkable and beautiful Regency binding in full straight grain citron morocco. Gilt raised bands, twin labels and superb blind and gilt tooling to the panels. A series of blind and gilt rolls and fillets, fan corner tooling and inked tooling (typical of this period) embellish the boards. All edges gilt. With the grand martial bookplate of Stewart, Lord Londonderry and with the ink inscription on the first blank reading: "Frances Anne Vane given to her by her Papa, at Wynyard 1833." (Wynyard Hall was the magnificent family home of the Vane-Tempest-Stewart family, Marquesses of Londonderry, until 1987). This volume contains the eighth edition of Canto I and Canto II, comprehensive notes as well as 'Other Poems'. (This binding is less yellow than our other Londonderry Byron, though has the same tooling). Some marking to the boards but overall in excellent condition.
