With gilt raised bands end dense and very finely tooling to the panels and gilt fillets, rolls and corner tools to the boards. Gilt dentelles and all edges. With over 145 superbly engraved portraits. Splendid panels have been constructed with gilt and blind tooling to the boards, so typical of the period. Gilt dentelles and all edges. Watered-silk end papers. With the armorial bookplate of Frederick H. Dutton of Sherborne House. There is a neat previous owner's name in ink on the title pages. Embellished with 150 engraved plates. A very fine set.

London: David Nutt, 1890. Full calf, 7 inches tall. A neat little Victorian binding by Morrell with gilt raised bands, twin labels and charming floral gilt tooling to the panels. Gilt top edge. Extra-illustrated with 26 plates added. From the Library of the Late Christopher Foyle of Beeleigh Abbey. A delightful copy of this collection of essays on celebrated literary characters.

Edinburgh: Constable, Miller & Murray, 1808. Full diced calf, 8.5 inches tall. A superb Regency binding with gilt and blind bands and very fine blind, gilt and inked tooling to the panels. The diced boards are framed within blind and gilt rolls. There is a neat ink inscription dated 1810 on the reverse of the free endpaper. A splendid example of a binding of this period on a fourth edition of this celebrated poem.

The diced boards are framed within blind and gilt rolls. There is a dark patch on the upper board and a neat ink inscription dated 1810 on the reverse of the free endpaper. A splendid example of a binding of this period on a tenth edition of this celebrated poem.
