Paris: Carrington, 1906. 2 volume set, 9 inches tall. A handsome set with raised bands, delicate gilt tooled panels and top edges. Limited to one thousand copies and published in Paris due to its somewhat racy contents. Sometimes known as 'The Pleasant Nights' or 'The Facetious Nights', these 16th century fables and tales contain several of the first appearances of fairy stories still that are still familiar today.

London: Lawrence and Bullen, 1892. 2 volume set, 11 inches tall. A very smart full morocco binding with gilt raised bands, gilt fillets to the panels and rolls to the boards. Gilt top edges. Limited to 1000 copies of which this is number 73. Portrait and 14 full page plates by Louis Chalon. Translated into English by Sir Thomas Urquart of Cromarty and Peter Anthony Motteux. A handsome set of this great 16th century fantasy.

London: Printed by Bensley for Triphook, 1817. 2 volume set, 9.5 inches tall. A binding in full straight grain morocco of the highest quality attributed to C(harles) Lewis on an ancient tipped-in slip from an old catalogue. With wide gilt raised bands, exceptionally fine and dense gilt tooling to the panels and neat gilt tooling framing the boards. Superb gilt doublures. With the splendid armorial bookplate of the great bibliophile Prince Augustus Frederick, Duke of Sussex, whose magnificent library was housed at Kensington Palace. One of only 50 large paper sets with the woodcuts, after Thurston, being in 2 states, one on india paper. Some minor foxing.

Edinburgh: Privately printed, 1885. 2 volume set, 8.75 inches tall. A very delicate and fine half crushed morocco by Riviere with raised bands, twin labels and all edges gilt. One of just 75 large-paper copies. The first title, on parchment, is foxed, the second title page and rest of the text is perfectly clean. A delightful collection of 'Epitaphs and Inscriptions interesting either from historical association or quaintness of wording'.

London: The Florence Press by Chatto & Windus, 1909. Full crushed morocco, 11 inches tall. A remarkable binding by J(ulius) Dratva of Vienna with large raised bands and simple gilt framed panels. The upper board shows St Francis kneeling before a winged Christ through an arch with dragon heads in the top corners. All edges have very unusual floral gilt gauffering. A gilt armorial device G.T. with a Griffin wielding an anchor and sword on the paste down endpaper. Number 191 from a limited edition of 500. An exceptional item.

Paris: Bibliotheque des Curieux, (1910). Half morocco, 6 inches tall. A very curious item in a curious binding with gilt raised bands, raised head and tail and ornate gilt tooling to the spine. Gilt top edge. One of 500 copies. Original wrappers bound in. The tale of the seduction of a novice by a priest.

London, Paris & New York: Goupil & Co, 1901. Full crushed morocco, 12.75 inches tall. A superb binding by Gruel with raised bands, simple elegant framed panels and boards, gilt dentelles and top edge. Limited to 300 copies printed on Japanese paper of which this is number 11. With the plates in 2 states. Fine colour frontispiece. Slight blotchiness to the boards but still a magnificent copy.

London: (Leonard Smithers) Privately Printed, 1896-1897. 4 Volume set, 7.5 inches tall. Superbly bound by Nichols in full calf with gilt raised bands, twin labels and dense gilt tooling to the panels. Top edge gilt, the other edges untrimmed. 'This edition is strictly limited to 1000 numbered copies, 500 of which are for America'. This copy unnumbered. A fascinating work by the team of Leonard Smithers and Harry Sidney Nichols, celebrated printers and publishers of erotic and pornographic volumes.

London: The Society of English Bibliophilists, 1894. 5 volume set, 9 inches tall. A very neat half morocco of generous proportions with gilt raised bands, tooling and top edge. One of 312 copies on hand made paper. The 73 full page plates by Freudenberg printed on Japanese paper and mounted. 150 head and tail pieces by Dunker. Bookplates. A pristine set of this splendid edition.

Paris: Javal et Bourdeaux, 1931. Text and 2 extra suites housed in 2 boxes, 14 inches tall. Number 23 of 60 copies on 'Japon Imperial'. With 30 colour plates by Dignimont in the main text. With a further suite of his illustrations in monochrome. There is also an ORIGINAL watercolour by Dignimont. With a further suite of 30 original etchings by Courbouleix, each is in 2 states, monochrome and sepia. The 30 sepia etchings are all numbered and signed. The two wooden boxes are leather bound with gilt titles, and heavily padded and lined with watered silk. I believe these were publisher's copies. The boxes are slightly rubbed and the main box lacks a popper, but they both still function., the contents are pristine. A unique set.

The boxes are slightly rubbed but fully functioning, the contents are pristine. A unique set.

With 30 plates by Jean Oberlé in two states and with an ORIGINAL watercolour. In an extra suite are 60 etchings by Louise Ibels, all signed and a further ORIGINAL watercolour. The two wooden boxes are leather bound with gilt titles, and heavily padded and lined with watered silk. The title page is dated 1928 whereas the wrapper is dated 1929. I believe these were publisher's copies. The boxes are slightly rubbed but fully functioning, the contents are pristine.

With 6 illustrations from wash drawings by Paul Avril, 14 facsimile binders labels and 20 plates of bookbindings. First edition, limited to 252 copies on handmade paper. Armorial bookplate. An excellent copy of a rare volume.

City of Westminster: Chas J. Sawyer, (1927). 2 volume set, 9 inches tall. Very fine half crushed morocco with gilt raised bands, elegant gilt panels and gilt top edges. Slight variation to the tooling of each volume. With an inscription 'with the author's compliments' on the half title. Limited to 2000 copies. With 100 illustrations. A very fine set.

Paris: 'Disciples d'Hippocrate', 1942. Half crushed morocco, 11 inches tall. A simple binding with gilt tooled titles, fleurons and top edge. One of 250 copies on 'velin de rives', this being number 245. With 13 explicit illustrations in black and white and 12 in colour, with an extra suite of the 12 colour lithographs. A fine copy.

ünchen, Bremer Presse, 1921. Full vellum, 10.5 inches tall. A very attractive yapp edged vellum binding with simple gilt tooling to the panels and boards. Gilt top edge. No 49 of a limited edition of just 270. Bound by 'Bremer Binder F. TH.' A finely printed and bound collection of early French love songs in French.
