The crushed morocco on the boards is framed with a beautiful gilt border with a green Greek key design and further onlays. Watered silk doublures and all edges gilt. Printed on hand-made Riccardi Paper in a limited edition of 500 copies. With 12 superb illustrations in colour by William Russell Flint. A unique volume, in pristine condition, of Kingsley's great retelling of the Myths and Legends of Greek Mythology.

London: The Florence Press by Chatto & Windus, 1909. Full crushed morocco, 11 inches tall. A remarkable binding by J(ulius) Dratva of Vienna with large raised bands and simple gilt framed panels. The upper board shows St Francis kneeling before a winged Christ through an arch with dragon heads in the top corners. All edges have very unusual floral gilt gauffering. A gilt armorial device G.T. with a Griffin wielding an anchor and sword on the paste down endpaper. Number 191 from a limited edition of 500. An exceptional item.

London: Printed by Bensley for Triphook, 1817. 2 volume set, 9.5 inches tall. A binding in full straight grain morocco of the highest quality attributed to C(harles) Lewis on an ancient tipped-in slip from an old catalogue. With wide gilt raised bands, exceptionally fine and dense gilt tooling to the panels and neat gilt tooling framing the boards. Superb gilt doublures. With the splendid armorial bookplate of the great bibliophile Prince Augustus Frederick, Duke of Sussex, whose magnificent library was housed at Kensington Palace. One of only 50 large paper sets with the woodcuts, after Thurston, being in 2 states, one on india paper. Some minor foxing.

New York: Duprat & Co. 1893, 1894 & 1895. The first 3 volumes of this very rare limited edition, 7" tall. Beautifully bound by Canape in half red morocco with gilt raised bands, ornate tooling to the panels around a calf onlay. Gilt top edges. With the bookplates of Pierre Munier and I. Fernandez. With an ink inscription from the publisher on the first blank. Number 416 of 600 copies on handmade paper. The first volume has delightful coloured comic illustrations of various aspects of the book trade facing each month. The second and third volumes have fine monochrome plates. Copies of these volumes are exceedingly scarce and, especially in pristine condition and in fine bindings.

Paris: Chez Sylvian Sauvage, 1927. Half morocco, 9.5 inches tall. with raised bands and fine gilt tooling with onlays, gilt top edge. This is example V of XX lettered 'examplaires de collaboration'. With splendid illustrations by Andre Dignimont including an original watercolour signed and inscribed to Pierre Macorlan, the celebrated french novelist and songwriter.

With gilt raised bands, superb gilt tooling to the panels and boards, gilt dentelles and all edges. With the bookplate of Alfred de Rothschild. Some superficial marking to the binding, but a super set. From a limited edition of 210 copies with the etchings in 2 states and the 'Masks', illustrating the Italian Commedia dell' Arte, hand coloured. A wonderful set of the Memoirs of this great Venetian 18th century playwright in English.

A sumptuous binding by Riviere in an unusual orange goat skin, with gilt raised bands and very fine extra gilt tooling to the panels and gilt roll and triple fillet framing the boards. Gilt dentelles and all edges. Beautifully printed and with illustrations throughout including the colour portrait of Oliver Cromwell. One of a series of extravagantly produced, mostly Royal, biographies. Deluxe limited edition in very fine condition.
