With gilt raised bands, very fine and ornate tooling to the panels, dentelles and all edges. With his pink binder's ticket. Embellished with all 10 folding engraved plates. The Siege of Gibraltar was an unsuccessful attempt by Spain and France, during the American War of Independence, to capture this British territory captured from Spain during the War of the Spanish Succession in 1704.More details Price: £4,250.00

London: J.Johnson et al, 1798. 10 volume set, 7.5 inches tall. Splendid bindings, bound by the great Christian Kalthoeber, and with his ticket. Full 18th century tree calf with gilt 'Greek key' bands, twin labels and charming gilt floral tools to the panels. Fine gilt rolls frame the tree calf of the boards. With the armorial bookplate of Edward Astle. There is a slight nick to the head cap of volume 4 and a one inch split to the head of volume 1, but still a superb set by one of the greatest London binders of his period.More details Price: £2,000.00

London: T. Cadell, 1788. 4 volume set, 8.75 inches tall. A wonderful full vellum, bound by Christian Kalthoeber, one of the greatest bookbinders of the period, and with his ticket. With delightful twin blue titles edged with several ornate pallets. Double fillets frame the boards. Yellow edges. There has been some loss to the foot of the fourth volume due to ancient water damage. This has not affected the text nor taken away the overall splendid look of the set.More details Price: £800.00
