An extraordinary and unique collection of first editions by Charles Kingsley, the hugely influential Victorian Novelist, Historian and Social Reformer. The collection is uniformly bound in a Victorian half morocco by Birdsall with gilt raised bands, pallets, labels and elegant floral tooling to the spines. Top edges gilt. Some foxing, mostly confined to the preliminaries. With the armorial bookplate of Sir George John Armytage of Kirklees Park. A remarkable and most attractive collection of these titles, many of the earliest titles of which are almost unobtainable.

With the armorial bookplate of John C. Wellington, with gilt monogram on the upper boards and evidence of a second bookplate that has been carefully removed from the free endpapers. Illustrated throughout. The spines have faded to a rich brown giving a very pleasing effect on the shelf. With very many contributors including Mary Shelley, Charles Dickens, Walter Savage Landor, Captain Marryat, Benjamin D'Israeli and William Harrison Ainsworth. With the armorial bookplate of Thomas Basil Duguid. Some light foxing to some plates but overall a beautiful run in pristine condition.
