Paris: Firman-Didot, 1896. Full Morocco, 11 3/4 inches tall. An extraordinary and magnificent binding with gilt raised bands and red inlaid calf 'N's within elegant gilt frames to the panels. The upper board has a ground of bees, Napoleon's representation of his status as Emperor, onto which is an onlay of morocco with tiny opal bosses on the edges, as if pinned to a board. A calf plaque of Napoleon Bonaparte is supported by the victor's laurel wreath and a mighty sword all with onlays. This is above a red calf 'N' and 'B' surmounted by the Emperor's crown.
