London: Richard Bentley, 1837. 6 volume set, 9" tall. A very pretty later full calf by Riviere with gilt raised bands, twin labels and very fine gilt tooling around a cornucopia. Twin gilt fillets frame the boards, dentelles and gilt top edge. There is a degree of rubbing and weakness to the shoulders and slight blotchiness to the spines. Embellished with 24 full page engraved plates and 28 folding tables. A very good looking set of this great work which covers the period from 'The Declaration of War by France in 1793, to the Accession of George IV'.

A stunning dark pink hard grain morocco binding with gilt raised bands, extra gilt panels and magnificent gilt tooling to the boards. Gilt dentelles and all edges. Book plate. Illustrated throughout. A fine set of this classic work by the Dublin born art historian, Mrs. Jameson.

Perth: R. Morison and Son, 1786. Full morocco, 7 inches tall. A late 18th century full straight grain morocco with gilt bands and splendid gilt centre tools and remarkable gilt foliate gauffered edges. From Morison's Edition of Scotish Poets. With 2 full page engravings. With some rubbing and a scuff on the lower board, otherwise firm and solid and clean.

London: Methuen & Co., 1910. Full morocco, 6 1/2 inches tall. A very smart copy in full crushed morocco Edwardian binding by Bumpus with gilt raised bands, simple gilt framing to the panels and boards, gilt dentelles and all edges. Slight fading to the spine but still a luxurious and neat volume.

London: Baldwin, Cradock et Joy, 1824. 2 volume set, 8 1/2 inches tall. A splendid Regency binding on half 'Russia' calf, with gilt raised bands, blind pallets and ornate, dense extra gilt panels. Particularly interesting marbled paper on the boards. From the library of Alfred de Rothschild but without the bookplate. An anonymous work on the life of this extraordinary woman with 'correlative details of the literature and manners of Italy and Provence in the thirteenth and fourteenth centuries'. With some foxing and a couple of paper tears not affecting the text. A lovely set.

London: Longmans, Brown, Green and Longmans, 1852. Full calf, 8 1/4 inches tall. A superb binding with gilt raised bands, twin labels and extra gilt panels. All edges gilt and dentelles on large squares. With the bookplate of Alfred de Rothschild. Embellished with 152 woodcuts and 29 line engravings, as called for. Slight blotchiness on the labels and boards, overall a wonderful volume of one of Dublin born, Anna Brownell Jameson's, great art histories.

London: Thomas Nelson, c.1910. Full vellum, 6 inches tall. A delightful little full vellum binding with the spine and boards gilt and with yapp foredge. All edges gilt. With the bookplate of S & E Virgo. Portrait.

A beautiful binding in full crushed morocco by Zaehnsdorf with gilt raised bands and superb field sport centre tools framed in the panels. The same centre tools adorn the boards around an ornate decorated panel. Gilt dentelles and all edges. Armorial bookplate. Charming frontispiece and vignettes by Charles Whymper. A fine copy of one of Jefferies works in which the great English naturalist depicts various aspects of English rural life.

A wonderful full crushed morocco binding by Riviere with gilt raised bands, very fine gilt tooling to the panels and with triple gilt fillets framing the boards. Gilt dentelles and top edges. With the armorial bookplates of W.H. Lever of Thornton Manor, Sir W. Hesketh Lever, Bart. and Baron, Lord Leverhulme of Bolton-Le Moors, all one and the same and the founder of 'Port Sunlight'. This beautiful set has an extra 89 plates, 34 hand-coloured, bound in, some particularly interesting ones, including Mr. Kean as Richard and as Count Bertram and 2 box tickets for His Majesty's Theatre. A unique set in pristine condition.

Splendid late Victorian full morocco bindings by Bickers with gilt raised bands and exquisite gilt tooling to the panels and boards. Gilt dentelles and all edges. A neat ink signature dated 1894 on the front free endpapers. Very profusely illustrated throughout with vignettes and full page plates. Some foxing in particular on the preliminaries. A very good looking set of this great Dublin born art historian.

A handsome 'New and Revised Edition' of this classic work on Napoleon by the wife of General Jean-Andoche Junot, one of Napoleons most trusted officers during the French Revolutionary Wars and the Napoleonic Wars.

Gilt dentelles and all edges. With the armorial bookplate of Sir Robert Uniacke-Penrose-Fitzgerald, 1st Baronet of Lisquinlan and Corkbeg. With the fine engravings by Raimback of the celebrated Smirke illustrations.

First edition with dedication leaf to volume I and half titles to vols II & III, as called for. Corners a little bumped, very slight split to one joint and light spotting. From the library of Captain Thomas Robert Brigstoke and with his ink signature to each volume. Robert J. Hayhurst bookplate.

A single gilt fillet frames the boards, With bookplate of Ellen James. A little rubbing but overall a perfectly firm and solid set of this scarce English language edition.

Edinburgh: Oliver and Boyd, 1822. Full calf, 5 1/4 inches tall. A charming little Georgian binding with gilt raised bands and delightful gilt floral tooling to the panels. The splendid embossed boards are framed within gilt and blind rolls. The second title page has the previous owners initials. With engraved frontispiece and title page.

London: Cooke, 1797. 3 volume set, 5 1/2 inches tall. Beautiful 18th century tree calf with gilt bands, twin labels and delightful gilt tooling to the panels. Slightly marked endpapers, otherwise pristine. Bookplate. Embellished with engraved frontispieces, title pages and full page plates. The plates dated 1797. This extraordinary dark satire spawned many imitations. From the library of Charles William Vane (formerly Stewart), third Marquess of Londonderry. Vane served with distinction throughout the Peninsula War. His dashing and dandified portrait by Sir Thomas Lawrence is at the National Portrait Gallery. He amassed magnificent libraries in his various Country Houses.

A stunning full hard grain morocco by Toovey of Piccadilly with gilt raised bands, exceptionally fine gilt tooling to the panels and a triple fillet framing the boards. Gilt dentelles and top edge. One of only 50 'Imperial' copies. With the leather label of Denning. Illustrated with 336 engraved vignettes. Thomas Rymer Jones, eminent English surgeon, academic and zoologist was Fullerian Professor of Physiology at the Royal Institution in 1840 to 1842.
