A wonderful full crushed morocco binding by Riviere with gilt raised bands, very fine gilt tooling to the panels and with triple gilt fillets framing the boards. Gilt dentelles and top edges. With the armorial bookplates of W.H. Lever of Thornton Manor, Sir W. Hesketh Lever, Bart. and Baron, Lord Leverhulme of Bolton-Le Moors, all one and the same and the founder of 'Port Sunlight'. This beautiful set has an extra 89 plates, 34 hand-coloured, bound in, some particularly interesting ones, including Mr. Kean as Richard and as Count Bertram and 2 box tickets for His Majesty's Theatre. A unique set in pristine condition.

London: Henry Colburn, 1833. Full morocco, 15 inches tall. A spectacular and beautiful full morocco binding by Wright with wide gilt raised bands and superb gilt tooling to the panels and boards. Git dentelles and all edges. With 21 engraved plates of the Beauties of the day. Some offsetting. There has been a damp stain to a small section of the foredge affecting the first 40 pages. This extends in a short distance, far away from any text or illustrations. Otherwise the text is clean and the binding is in fine condition. A magnificent early Victorian binding.

Splendid late Victorian full morocco bindings by Bickers with gilt raised bands and exquisite gilt tooling to the panels and boards. Gilt dentelles and all edges. A neat ink signature dated 1894 on the front free endpapers. Very profusely illustrated throughout with vignettes and full page plates. Some foxing in particular on the preliminaries. A very good looking set of this great Dublin born art historian.

London: Hector M'lean, 1819. Full straight grain morocco, 10.5 inches tall. A very fine Regency binding with wide extra gilt raised bands and panels. The boards are framed within wide gilt and blind rolls. All edges gilt. Fine engraved plates by Smirke. From the Library and with the bookplate of Robert J. Hayhurst.

London: Hector McLean, 1821. 3 volume set, 8 1/4 inches tall. A splendid full calf by Root with gilt raised bands, triple labels and delicate gilt tooling to the panels. Dentelles and all edges gilt. From the Library of the Late Christopher Foyle of Beeleigh Abbey. Embellished with 15 fine hand-coloured aquatint plates. A delightful edition in pristine condition. The adventures of a golden Guinea as it silently passes from person to person, and the variety of human nature encountered.

Paris: Audot, 1822. 2 volumes complete, 8 inches tall. A most attractive set in half speckled calf with gilt pallets, large blue labels and delicate gilt centre tools. Armorial bookplate. Yellow edges and interesting endpapers. With 36 engraved plates. Described by Thiebaud (522) " Un des livres de chasse les plus agréablement illustrés de cette époque". In the original French.

A Splendid full Georgian straight grain morocco with gilt raised bands, delightful gilt tooling to the panels and fillets and wide blind and gilt rolls framing the boards. Gilt dentelles and all edges. With the armorial bookplate of Sir Robert Uniacke-Penrose-Fitzgerald, 1st Baronet of Lisquinlan and Corkbeg. With the fine engravings by Raimback of the celebrated Smirke illustrations.

London: Cooke, 1797. 3 volume set, 5 1/2 inches tall. Beautiful 18th century tree calf with gilt bands, twin labels and delightful gilt tooling to the panels. Slightly marked endpapers, otherwise pristine. Bookplate. Embellished with engraved frontispieces, title pages and full page plates. The plates dated 1797. This extraordinary dark satire spawned many imitations. From the library of Charles William Vane (formerly Stewart), third Marquess of Londonderry. Vane served with distinction throughout the Peninsula War. His dashing and dandified portrait by Sir Thomas Lawrence is at the National Portrait Gallery. He amassed magnificent libraries in his various Country Houses.

London: John Murray, 1854. 3 volume set, 8 1/2 inches tall. A classic mid-Victorian full calf with gilt raised bands, twin labels, and ornate gilt tooling on the panels. Blind corner tools and twin fillets frame the Trinity College Dublin embossed prize plate. Prize bookplates on each front paste down endpaper. A very good looking set of this celebration of the great English Poets by Samuel Johnson.

A stunning full hard grain morocco by Toovey of Piccadilly with gilt raised bands, exceptionally fine gilt tooling to the panels and a triple fillet framing the boards. Gilt dentelles and top edge. One of only 50 'Imperial' copies. With the leather label of Denning. Illustrated with 336 engraved vignettes. Thomas Rymer Jones, eminent English surgeon, academic and zoologist was Fullerian Professor of Physiology at the Royal Institution in 1840 to 1842.

London: Davies, 1775. 3 volume set, 7 1/2 inches tall. A very good looking 18th century full calf with gilt raised bands, twin labels and elaborate gilt tooling to the panels. A single gilt fillet frames the boards, With bookplate of Ellen James. A little rubbing but overall a perfectly firm and solid set of this scarce English language edition.

First edition with dedication leaf to volume I and half titles to vols II & III, as called for. Corners a little bumped, very slight split to one joint and light spotting. London: Richard Bentley, 1883. 3 volume set, 9 inches tall. A very handsome late Victorian half calf with gilt raised bands, twin labels and elegant gilt tooling to the panels. Bumped tips. With 20 engraved plates, as called for. A handsome 'New and Revised Edition' of this classic work on Napoleon by the wife of General Jean-Andoche Junot, one of Napoleons most trusted officers during the French Revolutionary Wars and the Napoleonic Wars.

A beautiful binding in full crushed morocco by Zaehnsdorf with gilt raised bands and superb field sport centre tools framed in the panels. The same centre tools adorn the boards around an ornate decorated panel. Gilt dentelles and all edges. Armorial bookplate. Charming frontispiece and vignettes by Charles Whymper. A fine copy of one of Jefferies works in which the great English naturalist depicts various aspects of English rural life.

Batavorum Lugdunum: Elzevir, 1640. Full crushed morocco, 4.75 inches tall. A delightful little volume in a sumptuous binding with gilt bands and floral tooling to the panels, dentelles, triple gilt fillet to the boards and all edges gilt. With wonderful gilt stamped endpapers. Voluptuous engraved title page. There were two first editions, this being the larger without the dedication from Vossius to Bielke but with summaries of the contents of each book. With the Bookplate of the Hayhurst Collection.

A lovely copy of this extraordinary comic work.

Edinburgh: Constable, 1854. Full morocco, 6.75 inches tall. A superb copy bound by Bedford, one of the greatest firms of the period. With gilt raised bands, gilt titles and exeptionally fine tooling to the panels and boards. Gilt dentelles and all edges. In pristine condition.
