A magnificent Regency tree calf with raised bands, twin morocco labels and fine gilt centre tools. Pink edges. With the splendid bookplate of Sir James Gordon Bart. of Letterfourey. Letterfourie (or Letterfourey) House is a Georgian house in Moray built by Robert Adam. Remarkably someone has seen fit to shoot volume I in the panel beneath the volume label, whether having taken offence at the text or as collateral damage when taking a shot at a stag that had strayed into the library, one can only surmise. This has caused the text to 'ruck' and tear at the gutter from page…
