A splendid little set of this classic history in late Victorian full calf with gilt raised bands, elegant gilt tooling to the panels and twin labels. The boards have gilt and blind fillets framing the gilt prize blocks of St. Paul's school. All edges gilt. A prize bookplate on the front paste down endpapers and a further bookplate.

London: John Murray, 1872. 3 volume set, 7 inches tall. A neat Victorian half calf with gilt raised bands, twin labels and floral gilt tooling to the panels. A smart little set of this classic history covering the period from the 'Accession of Henry VII to the Death of George II'.

London: Methuen, 1909. Full calf, 8 1/2 inches tall. A striking binding by Bayntun with gilt raised bands, twin labels and all edges gilt. Scratching to the lower board. From the Library of the Late Christopher Foyle of Beeleigh Abbey. With a total of 45 plates of which 10 are added. A fine copy of Belloc's sympathetic and entertaining biography of the tragic Queen of France.

Lille: Desclée, de Brouwer et Cie, c.1890. Full calf, 9 inches tall. A beautifully bound volume with gilt raised bands and superb gilt tooling to the panels and boards. All edges gilt. A remarkable printing of this great work, written at the beginning of the 14th century. The first and last leaves are printed on vellum.

Halifax: William Milner, 1844. Full morocco, 5.5 inches tall. A superb gilt embossed binding with gilt panels, boards and titles. All edges gilt. Portrait, engraved title page and 2 folding maps. Ink inscription on free endpaper dated Xmas, 1845.

London: Chapman and Hall, 1845. Full morocco, 14 inches tall. A very pleasing volume with wide raised bands, extra gilt panels, splendid gilt tooling to the boards, dentelles and all edges. With 24 fine lithographs by J. D. Harding, C. Cattermole, S. Prout, W. Muller, J. Holland and other eminent Artists. This is the first edition with 2 further volumes being published in the following 2 years. There is no volume number on the spine and the volume number on the title page has been obscured.

London: Arthur L. Humphreys, 1901. Full Morocco, 9 inches tall. A splendid full terracotta crushed morocco by Hatchards with raised bands and classic gilt framed panels and boards with triple dot corner tools and triple inked Aldine leaf clusters terminating the bands. Gilt dentelles and all edges. A superb copy of one of Humphrey's fine printings on handmade paper.

London: Richardson, 1806. 3 vol set, 8 1/2 inches tall. A pleasing Regency half morocco with ornate gilt bands and fine centre tools. Slight ink marks on the title page of the first volume. A nice copy of this scarce and curious history.

London: Faulder, Egerton, and Williams, 1789. 2 volume set, 8.5 inches tall. A most attractive 18th century tree calf with gilt bands, twin labels and elegant gilt tooling to the panels. There is some splitting to the joints of the upper boards but the books are still firm and tight.

London: Frederick Warne c. 1870. 2 volume set, 7 inches tall. A splendid Victorian full calf with gilt raised bands, twin labels, ornate gilt tooled panels, dentelles, gilt and blind rolls and gilt corner tools framing the boards. All edges gilt. Some foxing to the engraved frontispieces and title pages, otherwise clean. A delightful, anecdotal record of the bizarre and colourful events of old London town.

La Haye: Scheurleer, 1729. Half calf, 6 1/2 inches tall. A simple, though very pleasing, Georgian half calf with gilt bands, label and blind centre tools. With the armorial bookplate of Vane Londonderry. From the library of Charles William Vane (formerly Stewart), third Marquess of Londonderry. Vane served with distinction throughout the Peninsula War. His dashing and dandified portrait by Sir Thomas Lawrence is at the National Portrait Gallery. He amassed magnificent libraries in his various Country Houses. Engraved frontispiece and folding Royal pedigree, the latter has a small tear with no loss.

Paris: Baudouin Fréres, 1824. Half vellum, 8 inches tall. an elegant volume in a neat half vellum binding with gilt pallets and centre tools and contrasting green label. With the bookplate of Vane Londonderry. From the library of Charles William Vane (formerly Stewart), third Marquess of Londonderry. Vane served with distinction throughout the Peninsula War. His dashing and dandified portrait by Sir Thomas Lawrence is at the National Portrait Gallery. He amassed magnificent libraries in his various Country Houses. Engraved frontispiece. Following the revolution, Antoine, the younger brother of the last King of France, fled France and died in exile in England. In the original French.

Paris: Buisson, 1797. 2 volume set, 8 inches tall. A simple but good looking late 18th century 'russia' calf from the library of Lord Kinnaird of Rossie Priory. With gilt bands and titles. Some rubbing and slight splitting but still firm and solid. Embellished with 6 engraved portraits. In the original French.

Francesco Sforza was the great 15th century military leader who founded the Sforza dynasty in the duchy of Milan.

Oxford: The University Press, 1852. Full calf, 9 inches tall. A very handsome binding with gilt raised bands, fine gilt framed panels and gilt prize block of Rugby School on the upper board. Foxing to the preliminaries, then perfectly clean. A neat ink inscription on the first blank, Rugby School 1857. First printed in 1677, the Dukes were Scottish nobles who led successful campaigns during the Thirty Years War.
