La Haye (The Hague): Adrian Moetjens, 1682. 2 volumes bound in 1, 5.5 inches tall. A beautiful late 19th century full straight grain calf with raised bands, extra gilt panels and very fine and ornate gilt tooling to the boards. Gilt dentelles and all edges. Watered silk doublures and free endpapers. From the Robert J. Hayhurst collection. In the original French.

London: R. and J. Dodsley, 1764-1769. 3 volume set, 9 inches tall. 18th century full calf with gilt raised bands, twin labels and extra gilt panels. The boards are framed within a gilt roll. There is a little cracking of the joints but still perfectly firm and solid. A previous owner's ink stamp, B.Girlie, is at the head of the title pages. A handsome set of the first collected edition of the works of this English poet, who was also one of the earliest practitioners of landscape gardening.

Edinburgh: James Nichol, 1853. Full morocco, 8.5 inches tall. A splendidly bound volume with gilt raised bands, very fine gilt tooling to the panels and exceptionally ornate gilt tooling framing the boards. Gilt dentelles and all edges. From the library of Dalton Hall and from the Hayhurst collection. Bookplate. A well printed and handsomely bound copy of one of the most influential 18th century English poems.

Batavorum Lugdunum: Elzevir, 1640. Full crushed morocco, 4.75 inches tall. A delightful little volume in a sumptuous binding with gilt bands and floral tooling to the panels, dentelles, triple gilt fillet to the boards and all edges gilt. With wonderful gilt stamped endpapers. Voluptuous engraved title page. There were two first editions, this being the larger without the dedication from Vossius to Bielke but with summaries of the contents of each book. With the Bookplate of the Hayhurst Collection.

London: George Virtue, 1847. Full morocco, 10 inches tall. A delightful binding with gilt raised bands, extra gilt panels, dentelles and all edges. London: Hall, Virtue & Co. c.1845. Full morocco, 10 inches tall. A superb binding with raised bands, finely gilt tooled panels and most attractive gilt tooling to the boards. All edges gilt. From the Library and with the bookplate of Robert J. Hayhurst. With maps and splendid engraved plates.

London: Hall, Virtue & Co, 1851. Full morocco, 10 inches tall. A splendid early Victorian morocco binding with raised bands, elaborate gilt tooling to the panels, superb gilt and blind tooling to the boards, gilt dentelles and all edges. From the Library and with the bookplate of Robert J. Hayhurst. embellished with 28 steel engravings including views of Spain, Malta and North Africa.

Cologne: Nicolas Schouten, 1690. Full mottled calf, 6.5 inches tall. A splendid late 17th century full calf with raised bands and fine gilt panels. There appears to be a Royal cypher at the foot of the spine but it is difficult to identify. This is the first edition of a very scarce pro-Jansenist work. London: Hector M'lean, 1819. Full straight grain morocco, 10.5 inches tall. A very fine Regency binding with wide extra gilt raised bands and panels. Manchester: M. Bancks, 1815. Full straight grain morocco, 5.5 inches tall. A delightful little volume with gilt bands and centre tools on the spine and gilt 'Cambridge' panels framing the straight grained boards. All edges gilt. One leaf has a small repaired tear without loss. A very pretty copy of this rare provincial imprint.

Paris: Dentu, 1892. Half calf, 5.25 inches tall. Charming little volume bound by Fazakerley with gilt raised bands, label and very fine gilt tooling to the panels. Vignettes and full page illustrations.

London: Fisher, (1845). Full crushed morocco, 11 inches tall. Beautifully bound by Wright, one of the most accomplished London firms of the period. With gilt raised bands, exceptional gilt floral tooling to the panels and a wide gilt roll framing the boards. Gilt dentelles and all edges. Embellished with 63 engraved plates. With the armorial bookplate of Earl Brownlow of Belton House. From the Library and with the bookplate of Robert J. Hayhurst.

London: Routledge, Warne and Routledge, 1862. Full morocco, 9 inches tall. A splendid Victorian binding by Hayday with raised bands and dense and elaborate gilt tooling to the panels. Gilt dentelles and all edges. Wide gilt rolls frame the boards. Engraved throughout. A degree of foxing. From the Library and with the bookplate of Robert J. Hayhurst. An interesting anthology in a fine example of this type of binding.
