London: William Pickering, 1846. 2 volume set, 12 inches tall. A magnificent crushed morocco by J. Clarke with gilt raised bands, very finely tooled panels, gilt dentelles and all edges. With the gilt embossed arms of Earl Cawdor on the boards. Beautifully embellished with 16 plates, 3 coloured, 1 folded and 60 illuminated initials. Some foxing to the engraved plates, otherwise pristine. A very fine set.

Paris: L’auteur des Estampes, 1786-1793. 3 volume set, 12 inches tall. An old tipped in catalogue entry attributes this magnificent binding to Charles Lewis. With wide gilt raised bands, delicate and ornate gilt tooling to the panels, twin labels, dentelles and all edges gilt. Complete with 3 engraved title pages, portrait and 73 engraved plates after Le Barbier. There are an extra 18 stipple engraved plates and 70 highly decorative vignettes. Some speckling and scuffing to the boards. A super copy of this beautiful 18th century deluxe edition.

London: Routledge, 1869 & (1872). 2 volumes, 7.5 inches tall. Superb full calf bindings by Tout with triple labels and elegant gilt tooling to the panels. With gilt dentelles and all edges. Original cloth covers bound in. Slight rubbing to the joints and a stain on the top of the second title page, otherwise perfectly clean. Profusely illustrated throughout. Sir William Schwenck Gilbert, English dramatist, librettist, poet and illustrator best known for the fourteen comic operas produced with the composer Arthur Sullivan.

Paris: Michel Lévy Frères, 1861-1866. 3 volumes, 8.75 inches tall, Superbly bound in full Victorian calf with gilt raised bands, twin label and delicate gilt tooling to the panels. This collection includes the 1st and 2nd series of Meditations of which a 3rd volumes was published later. In the original French.

London: Macmillan, 1931. Full calf, 6.5 inches tall. A very pretty binding by Bumpus with gilt raised bands, extra gilt panels, twin labels, gilt dentelles and all edges. Elegant illustrations throughout by Hugh Thomson. A delightful copy of this great work.

London: Bickers, c.1865. Full morocco, 6 inches tall. A charming 'Oxford' or 'Divinity' binding with gilt titles and all edges and blind tooling. Embellished with full page engravings and vignettes throughout. Slight rubbing and spotting to the boards but overall a lovely volume bound by Bickers.

Edinburgh: Privately printed, 1885. 2 volume set, 8.75 inches tall. A very delicate and fine half crushed morocco by Riviere with raised bands, twin labels and all edges gilt. One of just 75 large-paper copies. The first title, on parchment, is foxed, the second title page and rest of the text is perfectly clean. A delightful collection of 'Epitaphs and Inscriptions interesting either from historical association or quaintness of wording'.

London: Heinemann, 1948. Full calf, 7.25 inches tall. A delightful full calf by Bayntun Riviere in pristine condition. With gilt raised bands, twin labels, extra gilt panels, dentelles and all edges. Containing the second trilogy of the Forsyte Saga viz. The White Monkey, Silver Spoon and Swan Song on india paper.

London: Chatto and Windus, 1876. Crushed olive morocco, 8.5 inches tall. A superb binding by Sotheran with gilt raised bands, titles, dentelles, all edges and dense extra gilt tooling to the panels and boards. An edition edited and with notes by Sir Walter Scott. Illustrated with 64 full page engravings. Some foxing, in particular to the prelims. A stunning copy.

London: Tilt, 1827. 7.5 inches tall. Full crushed morocco by Riviere with gilt raised bands, very fine gilt tooling to the panels and the board framed within triple gilt fillets. Wide gilt dentelles and top edge. Illustrations by Cruikshank. The original paper wrappers bound in. Armorial bookplate and 2 catalogue entries for this copy tipped in. Albert Ludwig was not related to Jacob and Wilhelm, the Brothers Grimm. Slight split to the head of the spine but still a superb copy of a very rare item.

Montreal & New York: The Emerson Press, 1902. Full morocco, 7.5 inches tall. A deluxe edition of this very curious volume bound with gilt raised bands, gilt titles on the spine and upper board, gilt dentelles and all edges. This unique copy has been presented by the author to the Prince and Princess of Wales. With a manuscript leaf slipped in. Illustrated with photographs and sketches throughout.

Paris: Charpentier, 1880. Half morocco, 8 inches tall. A very finely tooled binding by Zaehnsdorf with gilt raised bands and extra gilt panels. Portrait. Edges bumped and some scuffing but a most attractive volume on the shelf.

Paris: Barrois,1788. 2 volume set, 6.5 inches tall. Simple 18th century roan binding in excellent condition with raised bands, twin labels and gilt filets. There is a neat owner's ink inscription and some blobs of red sealing wax on the paste downs.
