The panels are framed by blind pallets. The portraits and engraved title pages are hand coloured. Bookseller's tickets. A delightful set of the works of Felicia Hemans, the most considerable woman poet of the Romantic period.

New York & London: Putnam's, (1901). 2 vol set, 9 inches tall. This is the complete Bracebridge Hall from the Joseph Jefferson Edition of The Complete Works, limited to 250 sets. An extraordinarily bright and colourful binding by the Paris bindery Trautz Bauzonnet in full crushed morocco with gilt raised bands and floral gilt tooling to the spine. The boards and doublures are elaborately gilt tooled with floral onlays. Top edge gilt. Embellished with colour frontispieces, full page plates and vignettes. Classic work in a fabulous binding.

London: Cadell et al, 1830 & 1834. 2 volumes, 8 inches tall. very fine full crushed morocco by Holloway. With gilt raised bands, exceptionally attractive gilt tooling to the panels and boards, gilt dentelles and all edges. Bookplate. Profusely illustrated throughout with engraved vignettes by J. M. W. Turner, Thomas Stothard, and others. These titles are frequently found in fine bindings of the period and these are of a particularly high quality.

Paris: Garnier Freres, 1844. Full morocco, 10.5 inches tall. A splendid 'Gothic' binding with raised bands and blind tooling to the panels and boards. There is a recessed panel with vellum onlays on both boards with 'Paris 1844' on the lower board and 'a slightly smudged 'Victor Hugo. Notre Dame de Paris' on the upper, both with fine caligraphic flourishes. Blind dentelles and all edges gauffered and gilt. With an armorial bookplate. This is the first issue with these illustrations comprising engraved title and 54 engraved plates. In the original French. A fine edition of this classic French novel in a suitably sombre binding.

Paris: Saugrin, L'An V. - 1797. 2 volume set, 6 inches tall. An exquisite full straight grain morocco by C. Lewis with twin blind tooled bands, beautiful gilt tooling to the panels, dentelles and all edges. The straight grain of the boards is framed within a frame of gilt and blind tooled fillets. Bookplate. 8 glorious copper engravings by Moreau le Jeune and a frontispiece portrait of La Fontaine after Rigeau. Slight rubbing to the head and tail cap and boards, and slight fading to the spine but a beautiful set of this delightful and scarce work from the original tale by Ovid, retold by La Fontaine.

London: Arthur L. Humphreys, 1908. Full Morocco, 8 1/2 inches high. A stunning binding by Bumpus with gilt raised bands, extra gilt panels, elaborate gilt paneling to the boards, dentelles and all edges. A wonderful copy, printed on handmade paper, of these potted biographies by Brantôme 1540-1614. celebrated adventurer and historian.

London, Paris, New York: Goupil & Co., 1903. Full Morocco, 13 inches tall. A stunning full crushed morocco by Zaehnsdorf with gilt raised bands elegant gilt centre tools to the panels and boards. Wide gilt dentelles, red watered silk endpapers and gilt top edge. One of One Thousand Copies on Fine Paper, of which this is No. 248. A fine colour portrait frontispiece and vignettes, initials and full page plates throughout.

London: Longman et al., 1820. 2 volume set, 5 3/4 inches tall. A single volume Bible bound in 2 in delightful Regency straight grain morocco. With gilt raised bands, gilt and blind tooling, so typical of the period, to the panels and a wide gilt roll and blind fillet framing the boards. All edges gilt. A beautiful little Bible in pristine condition.

A very fine full crushed morocco by Riviere with gilt raised bands and very fine gilt tooling around a comic centre tool to the panels. The boards are framed within a triple gilt fillet. Gilt dentelles and top edges. With red and black title pages, 17 etched plates by Cruikshank and Leech and 2 engraved portraits. The original cloth covers and spines bound in. A nasty scuff on the fore corner of the 3rd series but still a super set of first editions of this fantastical work.

Edinburgh: Archibald Constable, 1820. 12 volume set, 6 1/2 inches tall. A lovely, elegant little set of this early edition with gilt raised bands, and very fine gilt tooling to the panels and boards, very typical of the period. Engraved portrait. With the armorial bookplate John Keily.

London: Hector M'Lean, 1819. Full morocco, 10 1/2 inches tall. A Splendid full Georgian straight grain morocco with gilt raised bands, delightful gilt tooling to the panels and fillets and wide blind and gilt rolls framing the boards. Gilt dentelles and all edges. With the armorial bookplate of Sir Robert Uniacke-Penrose-Fitzgerald, 1st Baronet of Lisquinlan and Corkbeg. With the fine engravings by Raimback of the celebrated Smirke illustrations.

London & Paris:Boussod, Valadon & Co. (Goupil), 1897. Full morocco, 13 inches tall. A very bright and attractive copy of this sumptuous edition with one colour plate and numerous monochrome full page illustrations. A couple of tiny ancient worm holes and slight foxing, otherwise pristine.

London, Paris, New York: Goupil & Co., 1901. Full morocco, 12.75 inches tall. A stunning copy of the best edition bound by Wm. Brown of Edinburgh in full crushed morocco with raised bands and elegant gilt panels. The royal crest on the boards is framed within a series of gilt and blind fillets and corner tools. Gilt dentelles and top edges. Colour portrait and monochrome and sepia full page plates and vignettes throughout. Limited to just 300 copies on Japanese paper, of which this is number 127. Armorial bookplate. With the splendid armorial bookplate of the Earl of Tweeddale, Viscount Walden. Fading to the spine but a very clean and smart copy of this luxurious edition.

A beautiful full crushed red morocco binding by Noulhac, the great Parisian binder, with gilt raised bands, fine gilt floral tooling to the panels and superb gilt tooling to the boards. Dentelles and all edges gilt. The first edition, with 1853 on the title page but 1854 on the original wraps, which are bound in. With the bookplate of Daniel Henry Holmes. An anecdotal guide to Constantinople. In the original French.

Edinburgh: James Nichol, 1853. 2 volume set, 8 1/2 inches tall. A wonderful early Victorian full straight grain morocco by J. Wright with gilt raised bands and absolutely superb gilt tooling to the panels and boards. Gilt dentelles and all edges. A fine set of the poetical works of John Milton the great 17th century poet who in 'Paradise Lost' wrote perhaps the greatest of all English epic poems.

London: Gulielmus Pickering, 1831. 2 volume set, 4 1/8 inches tall. A wonderful full crushed morocco by Holloway. With raised bands, blind pallets and gilt Aldus leaves in the panels. The boards have a blind panel with gilt Aldus leaves as corner tools. Gilt dentelles and all edges. A delightful small set printed by William Pickering with miniscule type, in the original Greek.

A very unusual Victorian full orange straight grain morocco for Sotheran of Piccadilly with gilt raised bands and gilt pallets framing the panels and rolls the boards. Gilt dentelles and top edges. Armorial bookplates. A beautiful set of the Poetical Works of Edmund Spenser, most famous for 'The Faerie Queene', one of the greatest of all English poets.
