Albert Ludwig was not related to Jacob and Wilhelm, the Brothers Grimm. Slight split to the head of the spine but still a superb copy of a very rare item.

Fine example in a later (c.1820) superb full straight grain navy blue morocco by Simier, the Royal Binder with 'Simier R. du Roi' at the foot of the spine. Simier is described thus by Ramsden 'His variety and technique were superb; he had no superior and few rivals during his career". With Gilt raised bands and delicate blind and gilt tooling to the panels. The boards are framed within a gilt fillet and blind roll. Gilt dentelles and all edges. The bookplate of Frederick Baldwin Adams Jn.. First published in Paris in 1641, this is the first Leiden edition. In French. Very fine condition inside and out.

With raised bands, a single gilt star to the spine and a gilt key motif on the upper board. The binding, which dates from 1969 has the following pencil inscription in William Russell Flint's own hand on the paste down endpaper: "Board of education South Kensington. National Book Prize awarded to William Russell Flint of Edinburgh Royal Institution School of Art for success in subject 9a at the National arts Competition 1900". A unique and lovely copy of this profusely illustrated and informative work.

A wonderful full straight grain morocco in exceptional condition with gilt bands and simple late 18th century gilt tooling to the panels and a single gilt fillet framing the boards. Gilt dentelles and all edges. This is the complete first edition, with later editions expanded to 6 volumes. Embellished with 4 hand coloured folding maps. This charming work 'comprehends' tours taken by Moritz, Twiss, Johnson, Pennant, amongst many others. There are a few small marks but the set is otherwise pristine indicating that it has spent no time in any traveller's pocket since publication. The set is housed in a modern open front cloth box.
