London: Bickers, c.1865. Full morocco, 6 inches tall. A charming 'Oxford' or 'Divinity' binding with gilt titles and all edges and blind tooling. Embellished with full page engravings and vignettes throughout. Slight rubbing and spotting to the boards but overall a lovely volume bound by Bickers.

London: Sharpe et al, 1822. Full morocco, 6 inches tall. A most accomplished Georgian straight grain morocco binding with gilt raised bands, extra gilt panels with Grecian lyre centre tools, dentelles and all edges gilt. The larger gilt Grecian lyre tool on the boards is framed within elaborate blind tooling. Engraved portrait.

An anthology of French poetry with the verse in the original French and the preface and notes in English. A delightful volume.

London: Gall & Inglis, c.1890. Full morocco, 7.75 inches tall. A sparkling copy of this edition with raised bands and elaborate gilt and inked tooling to the panels and boards. All edges gilt. Many full page engraved plates. Coloured borders to each page. Tasseled book mark. An ink inscription on the half title otherwise pristine.

London: Suttaby et al, 1812. 2 volume set, 5.25 inches tall. Lucan's epic Roman poem telling the story of the civil war between Julius Caesar and the Senate under Pompey the Great. From a larger set of "The Works of the British Poets", hence the volume numbers on the spine. London: Printed for the author, 1825. A stunning binding from the library of Lord Eldon, Lord Chancellor and in a uniform binding with our Soames History of the Reformation in our stock. Full straight grain morocco, 8.5 inches tall. With very wide raised gilt bands, superb extra gilt panels and tooling to the boards, dentelles and all edges. As is usual with this colour some blotching has occured over the years. On the title page volume 2 is stated and neatly crossed out and we are under the impression that this is the only volume published, as it contains a list of subscribers.

London: Bogue, 1854. Full red morocco, 8 inches tall. A rather splendid full blind tooled morocco with gilt titles and all edges. With 50 wood engravings by Birket Foster and Jane E. Hay. Lacking the half title.

London: Joseph Masters, 1869. Full morocco, 5 inches tall. A delightful little binding with two gilt raised bands, either end of the title and name, presumably of the original owner. There is dense and fine gilt tooling to the spine at the head and tail. The boards are framed with triple fillets and corner tools. GIlt dentelles and all edges.

Paris: Gruel: Engelmann, 1858. Full morocco, 6.5 inches tall. A very simple binding with raised bands and all edges gilt. Vellum endpapers not pasted down. Each page is finely decorated with elaborate borders.

London: Charles Noble, 1867. Full morocco, 4 inches tall. An exceptional Victorian binding with gilt raised bands, very fine floral gilt tooled panels and dentelles. The print is tiny and there is some offsetting making it doubly unreadable but housed in a delightful little binding.

A most sumptious binding from the early Victorian period with gilt raised bands, dense gilt tooled panels. finely gilt boards, dentelles and all edges. A anthology of verse by the greatest British poets of the period, illustrated by some of the most illustrious artists. As is usually the case with this edition there is foxing, some severe, throughout.
