A delightful binding in full terracotta crushed morocco, with raised bands, simple gilt framed panels and distinctive gilt and blind tooling to the boards. Gilt dentelles and all edges. Finely printed on hand made paper. Some rubbing and slight wear to the upper joint. Lenclos is celebrated for her charm, wit, intellect and for her liaisons with many of the most distinguished men of the day. Her salon was frequented, amongst others, by La Fontaine, Racine and Moliere.

As is usual with this colour some blotching has occured over the years. On the title page volume 2 is stated and neatly crossed out and we are under the impression that this is the only volume published, as it contains a list of subscribers.
