Batavorum Lugdunum: Elzevir, 1640. Full crushed morocco, 4.75 inches tall. A delightful little volume in a sumptuous binding with gilt bands and floral tooling to the panels, dentelles, triple gilt fillet to the boards and all edges gilt. With wonderful gilt stamped endpapers. Voluptuous engraved title page. There were two first editions, this being the larger without the dedication from Vossius to Bielke but with summaries of the contents of each book. With the Bookplate of the Hayhurst Collection.

ondon; Colburn, 1820. 2 volume set, 8.5 inches tall. A splendid binding very typical of the period with gilt raised bands and dense blind tooling to the panels and boards. Gilt dentelles and all edges. With the bookseller's ticket of Hoitt of Portman Square and armorial bookplate. With 18 full page engraved portraits.

London: John Murray, 1846. 2 volume set, 9 inches tall. A magnificent full morocco binding by one of the finest firms of binders in mid 19th century London, White of Pall Mall. With gilt raised bands and top rate floral gilt tooling to the panels. Gilt dentelles and all edges. There is some 'purpling' of the boards, seen often on this shade of blue, otherwise in pristine condition.

Firenze: Presso Gius. Molili E Comp. All' insegna di Dante, 1820. Full morocco, 5 1/2 inches tall. A stunning little volume in a richly gilt smooth back bound in the early 19th century. Engraved title page and frontispiece. From the library of Alfred de Rothschild and with his bookplate. A pristine copy of this great 14th century series of short stories, in the original Italian.

London: Printed by W. Bowyer for William and John Innys, 1720. 8vo (9.25" tall). Full straight grain aubergine morocco. Wide gilt raised bands, gilt lettering to panels. Double gilt rule with small corner tools framing boards. Dentelles and all edges gilt. Wide margins and lovely woodcut head- and tail-pieces. All published. A superb copy.

London: Henry Frowde, 1912. Full morocco, 8 1/2 inches tall. With the stamps of Morrell and also of Truslove and Hanson of Sloane street, luxury booksellers, book binders and acted as London agents for the State Library of New South Wales. Bound with gilt raised bands and very fine and ornate gilt tooling to the panels and boards highlighted with tiny green calf onlays. Gilt dentelles and all edges. Gordon was the first Australian poet to receive overseas recognition, though not before his tragically short life had ended.

Paris: Gibert Jeune Librairie d'Amateurs, 1938. 4to (10½" tall). Full blue crushed morocco. Splendid 1930's French binding with a series of wide bands each bearing a letter of the title. Coloured calf inlay and gilt tooling on the upper board. Top edge gilt.

Oxford: Samuel Collingwood, 1826. Full morocco, 5.5 inches tall. A very fine little binding with wide gilt raised bands, extra gilt panels and boards. All edges gilt. A super little Bible in excellent condition.

London: The Harleian Society, 1871. Full morocco, 10.5 inches tall. A superb binding by Tregaskis at the the Caxton Head with gilt raised bands, simple framed panels and boards, dentelles and top edge gilt. Slightly rubbed and a few minor scratches. Harleian Society volume V. With 2 bookplates.

London: Routledge, Warne, & Routledge, 1861. Full morocco, 9 inches tall. A remarkable heavy mid-Victorian full crushed morocco by David Bryce of Glasgow with twin raised bands, fine gilt panels and stunning gilt tooling to the boards with a panel in relief. Gilt dentelles and superb gauffered gilt edges. With an neat small inscription dated 1864 to 'Georgie Waddell from her cousin C.M. Fenton Livingstone'. Illustrated with over 100 designs by John Gilbert, engraved by the brothers Dalziel. Some rubbing but in fine condition.

London: Charles Tilt, 1831. 4 volume set, 7 inches tall. A splendid little early Victorian full morocco with fine gilt tooling to the panels and boards. All edges gilt. Containing 288 line engravings representing the works of British Artists.

Paris: Baudry, 1827. 3 volume set, 4 1/2 inches tall. A delightful little set in a splendid French full plum straight grain morocco with wide blind tooled raised bands, gilt pallets and centre tools. An elaborate blind embossed device is framed within blind and gilt fillets on the boards. Gilt dentelles and all edges. With a neat ticket of a Bordeaux book seller. A very neat ink previous owner's name, dated 1828, on the reverse of the free end paper. Portrait. Light foxing. A fine French edition, in English, in superb condition.

London: Macmillan, 1923. Full morocco, 7 3/4 inches tall. A splendid and remarkable full crushed morocco with gilt raised bands, fine gilt tooling to the panels and boards. Gilt dentelles and all edges gilt and gauffered. Illustrated by Frank Craig.

London: Good of Bond Street and Harding of Pall Mall, 1794. Full morocco, 9 1/2 inches tall. A sparkling late 18th century full straight grain morocco with gilt raised bands and superb extra gilt panels. Gilt fillets frame the boards. Gilt dentelles and all edges. Unfortunately a long defunct insect couldn't resist taking a superficial nibble at the foot of the spine and on the upper board near the foredge, detracting from its otherwise very good condition. Fine full page engraved plates. A neat ink inscription on the third blank records ' Mrs. Scrymsoure of Tealing. The Remembrance of a very dear Friend'.

London: W.S. Orr & Co., 1839. Full morocco, 9 3/4 inches tall. A splendid full morocco by Bayntun in pristine condition, inside and out. With gilt raised bands, elegant gilt framed panels and boards. All edges gilt. Wide gilt dentelles and silk end papers. From the Library of the Late Christopher Foyle of Beeleigh Abbey. A hugely popular novel originally printed in France in 1788. Bernardin's beliefs echo those of Enlightenment philosophers such as Jean-Jacques Rousseau as he contrasts the social class divisions in eighteenth-century French society with those of the noble inhabitants of Mauritius. With 330 engraved illustrations, 30 of which are full page.

London: Arthur L. Humphreys, 1907. Full morocco, 8 1/2 inches tall. A splendid Edwardian binding in full crushed morocco with raised bands, gilt lettering, gilt dentelles and top edge. a dark mark on a couple of bands, otherwise pristine. From the Library of the Late Christopher Foyle of Beeleigh Abbey. A typically luxurious printing on hand-made paper by Humphreys. This is one of the tall scarcer titles in this great series.

Mantova: Co' Tipi Dell'Erede Pazzoni, 1816. 6 volumes, 6.5 inches tall. Full blue morocco by Hering. Superb set with wide floral gilt raised bands, framed panels, dentelles and all edges. Slightly rubbed on the spines.

London: Longman, 1846. Full crushed morocco, 10.5 inches tall. Splendid heavy Victorian binding with raised bands, extra floral gilt panels and boards, titles, dentelles and all edges. Illustrated throughout by Maclise with beautiful illustrations all within decorative borders. Some foxing throughout and light scuffing, a patch of leather on the lower board has been squidged with no loss.
