London: Thomas Tegg, 1835. 8 volume set, 6 1/2 inches tall. A delightful little set in a classic early Victorian full calf with gilt raised bands, twin labels and extra gilt panels. Gilt and blind fillets frame the boards. Bound by Cleaver of Baker Street, Portman Square and with their ticket. Engraved title pages to all the volumes.

London: The Nonesuch Press, 1925. 3 volume set, 11 inches tall. A rather spectacular full calf executed shortly after the date of publication replacing the rather drab quarter vellum, which is bound in. With gilt raised bands, labels, fine and ornate gilt tooling to the panels and triple gilt fillets framing a 'Cambridge Panel' on the boards. Gilt top edges, the remainder deckled. Minor rubbing and marking. Edited by Geoffrey Keynes. Though neglected in his life time he has become probably the most influential English romantic poets. Blake's poetry, painting and printmaking exert a powerful influence to the present day.

London: Ackermann, 1823. 3 volume set, 5 1/2 inches tall. The exquisite miniature edition of 1823 bound in later full calf by Bayntun with gilt raised bands, twin labels, fine gilt tooling to the panels, twin gilt fillets framing the boards, dentelles and all edges gilt. Illustrated with 80 hand-coloured plates by Thomas Rowlandson, including two pictorial title pages, as called for. Brilliant comic satirical verse matched by Rowlandson's equally comic hand coloured aquatints.

London: Chapman and Hall, 1865-69. A 17 volume collection, 7 3/4 inches tall. An exceptionally good looking Victorian full calf with gilt raised bands, twin labels and intricate gilt tooling to the panels. A wide gilt roll, gilt and blind fillets and corner tools frame the boards. Fine engraved frontispieces, title pages and full page illustrations by Phiz throughout. Though not a complete set of Lever's works this is a beautifully bound collection of 10 of his most popular novels, individually published, in 17 volumes. In his day the Irish novelist, Charles Lever, was hugely popular and influential and his rollicking style is still enjoyed.

London: Bell and Daldy, 1871-72. 5 volume set, 7 1/4 inches tall. A sparkling Victorian full calf by Bickers with gilt raised bands, twin labels and ornate gilt tooling to the panels. The boards have twin gilt fillets and corner tools framing a remarkable gilt prize block. Prize bookplates. In his lifetime Humboldt was one of the most famous men in Europe and academies elected him to their membership, the first being The American Philosophical Society. He was a German polymath, geographer, naturalist, explorer, and proponent of Romantic philosophy and science. 'Kosmos' was Humboldt's work bringing together all the research from his long career, It is rarely found in a finely bound set in English.

London: Dodsley, 1782. 5 volume set, 7 1/2 inches tall. A delightful Georgian full speckled calf with gilt bands, twin labels and very fine gilt tooling to the panels including that of a Grecian urn. Yellow edges. An ornate bookplate bearing the motto 'appetitus rationi pareat' (Let your desires be ruled by reason). A beautiful set of the 3rd, enlarged edition of a work that analyses English art and society during the early eighteenth century.

London: Bathurst, Strahan, et al, 1770. 9 volume set, 8 1/2 inches tall. A splendid 18th century full speckled calf with gilt tooled panels, twin labels and yellow edges. From the library of Lord Kinnaird of Rossie Priory and with his bookplate. With full page steel engravings. A very clean set of the works of one of the early 18th century's greatest and most influential poets and satirists.

London: Chapple, 1814. 2 volume set, 7 inches tall. A very fine full calf by Robson & Kerslake with gilt raised bands, fine floral gilt tooling to the panels, twin labels, dentelles and all edges gilt. Bookplate. Some wear to the joints, especially the upper joint of the first volume but still solid. The text block is spotless. There are earlier editions of Selections from La Fontaine's Tales but this is the first complete edition in English and as such is highly sought after. With 40 full page engraved plates. A beautiful set of the works of this great 17th century French fabulist and poet.

London: T. Becket, 1781. Full calf, 9 inches tall. A very fine binding by Riviere with gilt raised bands, delightful gilt floral tooling to the panels and triple gilt fillets framing the boards. Gilt dentelles and top edge, the remaining edges untrimmed. An exceptionally clean and tall copy, being untrimmed. This volume does have the very rare leaf of advertisements but lacks the half title, which could be explained by the fact that it is in a later binding and that it was discarded, or could indicate it is not a true first. Slight splitting to the head and foot of the upper board but still perfectly firm and solid. A very nice copy of this great play.

London: Henry G. Bohn, 1851. 6 volume set, bound in 3, 10 inches tall. An exceptionally good looking mid-Victorian full calf with gilt raised bands, twin labels and really fine dense gilt tooling to the panels. Twin gilt fillets frame the boards. With the armorial bookplate of Evan Charles Sutherland-Walker of Skibo Castle. A superb copy of this profusely illustrated and highly entertaining work.

Paris: Cellot, 1768. 7 volume set, 8 inches tall. A fine 18th century full mottled calf with gilt raised bands, twin labels and floral gilt tooling. Pink Edges. Decorated with a portrait of Racine, 12 plates designed by Gravelot. A splendid set, in the original French, of the works of one of the great French dramatists.

London: Swedenborg Society, 1876. Full calf, 8 3/4 inches tall. A remarkable binding with gilt raised bands and a repeated gilt star within double fillets to the panels and boards. Gilt dentelles and all edges. This extraordinary work 'in which are disclosed The Mysteries There Foretold' was written by the great 18th century Swedish scientist, theologian, philosopher and mystic, Emanuel Swedenborg.

London: Rivington, et al., 1811. 4 volume set, 8 3/4 inches tall. A glorious mid-Victorian binding in full calf with gilt raised bands, twin labels and exceptionally fine gilt tooling to the panels. Twin gilt fillets frame the boards. Portrait. With the bookplate of Alfred de Rothschild. A splendid set of the poetical works of this great 17th century poet, play wright and translator.

London: Bickers and Sons, 1864. 4 volume set, 9 inches tall. A classic Victorian full calf with gilt raised bands, elaborate gilt tooling to the panels and densely tooled labels. The prize block of Rugby School is on the upper boards and a neat ink inscription is on the reverse of the free endpapers dated Midsummer 1865. Offsetting facing the portrait frontispiece, otherwise perfectly clean. A splendid set of all of Shakespeare's works including his Sonnets.

London: Edward Moxon, 1841. 6 volume set, 6 1/2 inches tall. A superb early Victorian calf binding with gilt raised bands, twin labels, the volume labels being especially ornate and extra gilt panels. Portrait. With a neat ink inscription on the first blank "Emily Westmacott....1845". Some scuffing to the edges but overall a particularly attractive set, published in the great romantic poet's lifetime.

LONDON: Cassell, Petter and Galpin, c.1870. 3 volume set, 10.5 inches tall. A very handsome set with gilt raised bands, twin labels and ornate gilt 'theatrical' centre tools. A gilt prize block on the upper boards and an ink prize inscription on the first blank. Illustrated throughout. A splendid set.

London: Longman, Green, Longman, and Roberts, 1860. 2 volume set, 8.5 inches tall. A splendid full calf binding with gilt raised bands, twin labels and elegant gilt tooling to the panels. Folding map, 58 full page tinted wood cuts and 3 plates of ancient Indian music. An ink inscription on the first blank on 'leaving Eton' dated 1867. A superb set of this profusely illustrated work.

Oxford: Rivington, 1834. 6 volume set, 9 inches tall. A magnificent full calf binding by one of the great London binders of the period J. Clarke. With gilt raised bands, twin labels, ornate gilt tooling to the panels, dentelles and all edges. With the armorial bookplate of Henry Collins.
