With gilt raised bands, triple olive green labels and exquisite gilt tooling in the panels. The boards are decorated in the style of 17th century Cambridge panels, speckled and stenciled. Gilt dentelles and top edges. A few superficial abrasions. As nice a late Victorian bound set as one could hope to find.

Gilt dentelles and all edges. These are all first editions in single volume book form excepting 'Handley Cross'. "Jorrocks's Jaunts' has 12 full page illustrations by 'Phiz', 'Hawbuck Grange' 8 plates by 'Phiz', the remainder have hand coloured plates by Leech. Some foxing and a small superficial stain to the lower board of 'Jorrocks's Jaunts'. A wonderful collection of these hilarious, vulgar and rollicking novels of English Country life in the early nineteenth century

A simple very handsome full calf by Zaehnsdorf with wide gilt raised bands, framed panels and a series of 6 gilt fillets framing the boards. Dentelles and top edge gilt. An ink inscription, dated 1906, on the first blank. Charles Forbes René de Montalembert wrote his great work 'Moines d'occident' in 1860 and this is the authorised English translation, published the following year. He wrote in a style at once picturesque, fiery and polished while his mastery of the Middle Ages was tempered by his religious sentiments.

With raised bands, striking twin labels and delicate gilt and blind tooling in the panels. Armorial bookplate of Sir William Eden. Some rubbing and wear to the joints especially to the 2 volumes of 'Warton's Essay', which also have chips to the head caps, but all are still solid and firm. Alexander Pope was one of the greatest English poets of the early 18th century and also a celebrated translator and satirist of the Enlightenment era.
