A charming and neat inscription, dated 1822 is to be found on the reverse of the free end paper and a neat ink former owner's name on the first blank. With five fine engraved plates. A little superficial loss to the lower board, otherwise in splendid condition.

A charming little volume bound in Regency full calf with gilt bands, Greek lyre centre tools and elaborate corner tools and splendid blind and gilt rolls frame the diced centre panel on the boards. An engraved frontispiece and vignette to the tittle page. A neat ink inscription from the period on the first blank reading 'Mifs Laura Longman. A reward of Merit'. Some marks and a little fading but a nice little solid copy. Two oriental tales from the 18th centuries bound together.

The Fables of Pilpay.
London: Baldwin, Cradock et al., 1818. 6 1/2 inches tall. A delightful little Regency full calf with gilt raised bands, Greek lyre centre tools and gilt fillets and corner tools framing the boards. With charming little crude engraved vignettes throughout. The Sanskrit animal fables of Panchatantra date from at least as far back as B.C.200, translated into English in the Elizabethan period and by La Fontaine in the 18th Century as the Fables of Bidpai. This had become Pilpay by the time of this edition.

London: Bent, 1787. Full red calf, 6.5 inches tall. A delightful binding in pristine condition. Gilt bands and very fine gilt tooling to the panels. The boards are framed by a geometric roll. Two parts with separate title pages and frontispieces. An early owners inscription on the first blank. Very curious bookplate in the form of a very delicate cut out on which is a minuscule manuscript inscription. Some worming affecting 14 leaves towards the end of the first part.
