London: Cadell and Davies, 1811. 2 volumes bound in 1, complete, 8 1/4 inches tall. Full Regency calf with wide blind tooled raised bands and ornate gilt and blind panels. A series of blind and gilt fillets and rolls frame the boards. With the armorial bookplate of Benj. Philpot Chr. Coll. Cant. Soc. , the neat ink inscription 'Gustavus Wulff from B. Philpot 1832' on the first blank and a partly obscured neat ink inscription at the head of the title page. Some rubbing and marking but still an interesting binding.

Oxford: The University Press, 1852. Full calf, 9 inches tall. A very handsome binding with gilt raised bands, fine gilt framed panels and gilt prize block of Rugby School on the upper board. Foxing to the preliminaries, then perfectly clean. A neat ink inscription on the first blank, Rugby School 1857. First printed in 1677, the Dukes were Scottish nobles who led successful campaigns during the Thirty Years War.

Paris: Hardouin, 1784. 2 volume set, 5 inches tall. A very simple yet good looking full calf with gilt bands, twin olive labels and tiny floral centre tools. All edges gilt. With the bookseller's ticket 'Vendu par DETREZ Libraire, place Sorbonne, No 4 a Paris'. The first volume consists of 'Poésies érotiques' and 'Voyage', the second volume of 'La journée champêtre', 'Le promontroire de Leucade', Les fleurs', and 'Mélange'. With exquisite engraved plates.

London: The Religious Tract Society, 1836. Full Calf, 4 inches tall. A tiny and delightful devotional work in a charming early Victorian binding with gilt raised bands, label and superb extra gilt panels. With the neat ink former owner's inscription 'Mary Ann Ashley, January 1840.

London: Rivington et al., 1824. Full calf, 5 inches tall. A delightful little Georgian full calf binding with gilt bands and elaborate gilt panels and an ornate gilt fillet framing 'PRIZE' on the upper board. The armorial bookplate of Thomas Clugas. Engraved frontispiece and title page. Some rubbing to the binding but no splitting or loss. Containing 'A Life of Virgil', 'Pastoral', 'The Georgics', and 'The Aeneid'. Publius Vergilius Maro, known as Virgil in English was an ancient Roman poet of the Augustan period and this English translation by Dryden is still considered the best.

Edinburgh: Ballantyne and Longmans et al, 1810. Full diced calf. 8.75 inches tall. A fine binding dating from the regency period, with raised gilt bands and very fine gilt tooling to the panels. The diced boards are framed within a wide gilt roll. Slight superficial loss to an ancient insect. A faint neat ink owner's inscription 'Eliza Smith' on the title page. A delightful copy. A wonderful little embossed calf binding with ornate blind tooled calf on the spine with gilt titles and on the boards framing gilt lyres. All edges gilt. An engraved presentation plate and 12 further fine engravings. Including 4 sonnets by John Clare.

London: John Rivington et al, 1779. 2 vols., 8vo (7" tall). Full calf. Raised bands, exceptionally bold centre tools in elaborate gilt panels and twin red and green labels. Minor expert restoration to one head cap and slight splitting to the joints of volume 1, but still firm and a most attractive copy.

London: Longmans et al, 1873. 2 volume set, 7.5 inches tall. A most attractive classic Victorian by Riviere in full calf with gilt raised bands, fine floral tooling to the panels and twin labels. Gilt prize inscription on upper board of volume 1.

London: Mawman et al., 1820. Full calf, 6 3/4 inches tall. Full Georgian lilac calf with gilt raised bands, olive label and delightful gilt and blind tooling to the panels. Gilt and blind fillets and corner tools frame the boards. Portrait.

London: Bradbury, Agnew, & Co., c. 1870. Full calf, 8 1/2 inches tall. A classic Victorian full calf with gilt raised bands, label and rather splendid gilt tooled panels. Book plate. Embellished with 10 coloured etchings and 100 woodcut vignettes by Leech. Slight fading to the upper board.

London: John Murray and William Tegg, 1853. Full navy blue calf, 6 1/2 inches tall. A very bright full calf with raised bands, wonderful naval gilt centre tools, contrasting red label and triple fillets framing the boards. There is the prize bookplate of Bruce Castle, dated 1853, on the front paste down endpaper and a further bookplate facing it. Simple woodcut vignettes, including to the title page. A sparkling copy of this hugely popular Life of Nelson.
