Paris: Saugrin, L'An V. - 1797. 2 volume set, 6 inches tall. An exquisite full straight grain morocco by C. Lewis with twin blind tooled bands, beautiful gilt tooling to the panels, dentelles and all edges. The straight grain of the boards is framed within a frame of gilt and blind tooled fillets. Bookplate. 8 glorious copper engravings by Moreau le Jeune and a frontispiece portrait of La Fontaine after Rigeau. Slight rubbing to the head and tail cap and boards, and slight fading to the spine but a beautiful set of this delightful and scarce work from the original tale by Ovid, retold by La Fontaine.

Paris: Curmer, 1858. 2 volume set, 10.5 inches tall. A simple but pleasing mid 19th century full vellum with gilt bands, dentelles and all edges gilt. Each page decorated with wide lithographic borders. With the gilt stamp of 'Schafer of Piccadilly', purveyors of luxury items. A fine set of this classic Christian guide based on the monastic practice of devotional reading by the 'Gentleman Saint'.

Maestricht: Dufour & Philippe, 1778. 9 volume set, 7 inches tall. Full 18th century cat's paw calf with gilt bands, twin labels and a delightful gilt floral centre tool to the panels. Pink edges. Unusual green speckled endpapers. Bookplate. There are 2 small but nasty dents to the spines of volumes III and VIII, otherwise a very neat and clean set of this scarce collection. A beautiful late 19th century full straight grain calf with raised bands, extra gilt panels and very fine and ornate gilt tooling to the boards. Gilt dentelles and all edges. Paris: Chez la Veuve Estienne, 1741. 4 volume set, 6.5 inches tall. A lovely 18th century English tree calf set from the library of the 3rd Marquess of Londonderry, with gilt bands, labels and yellow edges. A very fine set in pristine condition. In the original French.

Paris: Audot, 1822. 2 volumes complete, 8 inches tall. A most attractive set in half speckled calf with gilt pallets, large blue labels and delicate gilt centre tools. Armorial bookplate. Yellow edges and interesting endpapers. With 36 engraved plates. Described by Thiebaud (522) " Un des livres de chasse les plus agréablement illustrés de cette époque". In the original French.

London: Charles C. Arnold, 1825. Full calf, 5.5 inches tall. A delightful little binding in full straight grain calf with gilt raised bands, twin labels and delicate gilt tooling to the panels. The boards framed within gilt fillets and a gilt roll. Engraved frontispiece. Neat ink inscription dated 1833 on first blank and previous owner's name on the title page, dated 1864. Voltaire's epic poem on the evils of religious extremism and civil disorder in French, printed and bound in England.

Amsterdam: Changuion, 1772. 5 volume set, 8 inches tall. A very fine 18th century binding in full citron straight grain morocco with a series of gilt bands, triple labels and dense blind tooling to the panels. The boards have a series of blind and gilt rolls. All edges gilt. Armorial bookplate and the bookseller's ticket of Pickering of Piccadilly. Slightly rubbed but still a binding of real quality.

Paris: Chez Apollon, au Mont-Parnasse, 1782. Full morocco, 5.5 inches tall. A superb binding by Zaehnsdorf, one of the greatest London bookbinders. with gilt raised bands and splendid rococo gilt tooling to the panels and boards. Dentelles and all edges gilt. An engraved frontispiece and 17 further full page engravings. A charming 18th century anthology of French tales and poems.

Paris: Didot, 1806. 2 volume set, 6.5 inches tall. An elegant English Regency binding with gilt raised bands, very finely gilt tooled panels and gilt fillets and fleur de lis corner tools. All edges gilt. Engraved plates. Slight fading but still a superb set. From the library of Edward Vernon Utterson, famed collector and one of the 18 original members of the Roxburghe Club. The first volume consists of 'Poésies érotiques' and 'Voyage', the second volume of 'La journée champêtre', 'Le promontroire de Leucade', Les fleurs', and 'Mélange'. With exquisite engraved plates.
